Summer never listen to people that tell you that Christmas is just for kids, goes to show how much they know we know better.  Its a magical time whether you are a believer or not.

I hope your granddaughter enjoys the Christmas lights - will she go and see Santa some time?  We used to look forward to taking the kids to see Santa every year, I have been doing the photo book today and there are a couple in there of my daughter with her daddy visiting Santa, lovely photos.

Well I can't wait to get back to my book and see the clever way in which Maeve weaves her characters to a very satisfactory conclusion, she never lets me down.  As someone said on the Amazon review section the only sad bit is closing the final page and having to leave everyone behind.  Night night, sleep well, soon be time to start opening the doors on the Advent Calendars

Good morning everyone

Looks very dark and windy out there.

I don't know what is going on but my broadband speed seems to have got extremely slow this morning. I did a speed test and it's a tenth of normal. I hope this doesn't last long as it will be difficult to see or post anything here. So if you don't see me around, that's why.

I think things are back to normal now. I went back onto the support forum and saw that someone had just posted saying that the speed was back to normal. I've just repeated the speed test and that is fine.

It was a bit disconcerting this morning to find my broadband hardly functioning as you can imagine. You will remember that I had all those problems with Orange broadband in the summer last year, and this is the first time since I switched to Virgin 14 months ago that there has been any problem. The good thing is that Virgin have seemed to have rectified the problem within a couple of hours. My guess is that they forgot to feed the hamsters overnight (using Lori speak).

Skylark, I also don't like the shops when they get really busy at this time of year. The worst was some years ago when I went shopping on Christmas Eve in Marks & Spencer. That was the first time I realised that I had a mild touch of claustrophobia. It only happens when it is extremely crowded, I don't have a problem normally, and I don't have a problem in lifts. Not that I use lifts very much, I generally use the stairs.

I hope your granddaughter has a nice time with Santa.

At our church we have two retired (or semi-retired) clergymen and their wives. One of the couple look remarkably young to be retired. If you met them you would assume they were in their mid 50s. Anyway, the retired clergyman told me on Sunday that they had just become grandparents for the first time. I've just returned from shopping (before the expected heavy rain comes) and his wife was there. She showed me a picture of the baby - big aahs all around. Mother and baby are doing fine and are settling back at home. The grandmother was out doing some emergency shopping for them. I was behind her in the queue, and I encouraged her to show the picture to the cashier who is very friendly. More big aahs.

The baby is Lois. Me being a bit of a film buff immediately thought of Lois Lane from Superman. The thought must have gone through the grandparents minds as well as she had done a bit of research as to what Lois means. It is Greek for better, more desirable, so quite a suitable name for Superman's girlfriend.

Glad your broadband speed is back to normal EL, we take it for granted so much don't we?  I hate it when it plays up.  Awww a new baby granddaughter in time for Christmas, how lovely.

Good afternoon everyone. Wet and windy weather up here again.

El, there were similar problems problems with Virgin broadband in our area this morning. In fact, the connection was so slow, we gave up trying.

Welcome to baby Lois - the Superman connection was the first thing to go through my mind, too.

I couldn't get to sleep last night, and ended up back on the forum for a while. I eventually fell asleep around 5am, and then slept in. I had to go over to my parents with gifts for my brother's birthday, and ended up in a mad rush to get ready on time.

Visiting Santa with the little ones is a special time - lots of happy memories.

Squiggle, I have finished The Lilac Bus. I really enjoyed it, but it has left me wanting more. Thankfully, I have two more on their way.

You can get addicted Yogi, I know I am.  I was just thinking the other day that its about time I started to re-read some.  In the book I am reading now, and in many of hers, the people that were in a previous novel pop up again, its nice because you feel like its a real place and you already know some of the neighbours.
