No he hasn't EL, sad to say.  I have cancelled his other appointments, he has some hard lessons to learn.  Sometimes you have to step back, he has to start taking some initiative I'm afraid like a lot of youngsters nowadays he tends to think it should all be given to him on a plate.

I agree with you and the others - he shouldn't take you for granted. It's a shame he hasn't apologised, but you are doing the right thing

A few years ago at night there was a major power cut where I live, and everything including the street lights went out. I went outside and it was quite spooky. The power was off for some time and I decided to get in my car and drive around to see how widespread the power cut was. It did seem to be fairly widespread but I could see that the lights in the centre of town were on. As I started driving back, the lights started coming back on, but it was quite eerie whilst they were off.

Yogi, I should think that the cable to the street lighting has been damaged in some way. I doubt if it's a power cut otherwise you wouldn't have been able to tell us unless you're using a mobile.

EL that reminds me of years ago when there was a power cut during a big football match on the TV, I think it might have been the FA cup and every man in the street rushed to the front door and they all stood there shell shocked, it was quite funny (well for me I'm not a footy fan )

Summer you would like it where I live, we have no streetlights and on bright nights the stars are AMAZING

That sounds like bliss, Squiggle.

Definitely not a power cut, it's only the street lights which have been affected, El.

Good morning everyone

It sure was a windy night here, and I know it's bad up north. I hope everyone is OK

I hope they can find the 6 missing crew safe from the Swanland, the boat which is missing in the Irish Sea. 2 of the crew have been rescued. It's a cargo carrier and was transporting 3000 tonnes of limestone.

El Loro

Its very windy here too, I am always nervous going past the coastguard station on a windy morning like this as I go to church, if you get a strong gust its very exposed up there and can feel quite scary.

Yogi you have to see Elf, its unmissable, I love Will Ferrell.  I love Uncle Buck too, never tire of seeing it, I too like John Candy, sadly missed.  Skylark I too hope you are having a lovely weekend with your granddaughter.

EL that is such a tragedy in the Irish Sea, I hear that there was a crack in the hull, I hope they find those missing men.

I watched a Ben Affleck film yesterday and to my surprise Pete Postlethwaite was in it.  He was very skeletal and I would think it was probably his last film he was absolutely magnificent as always.

That would be The Town you saw yesterday. Pete Postlethwaite did appear in one film after this - Killing Bono which was a comedy about 2 brothers who wanted to become rock stars but could only look on as U2 became the biggest band in the world. From what IMDB says, it was a lesser role than originally intended as he been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

As you say he was a magnificent actor. For me, his most memorable role was in Brassed Off.

I think the news that Gary Speed hanged himself has come to a major shock to everyone. He left a wife and 2 children. The Football Association of Wales has said that they will do all they can to help them. Sad and utterly pointless end to someone who was respected and seemed to have a good managerial career in front of him

I loved Brassed Off (it made me cry) but you see in that movie that I watched yesterday it was the exact opposite.  Now in Brassed Off he was the most lovable character.  In The Town he was the personification of evil wow what an actor!  Incidentally in The Town no doubt we were supposed to feel sorry for Ben Affleck's character, well it didn't work with me, he was a thief and a murderer and I don't care if the people he murdered were baddies I still wanted him caught.

The news about Gary Speed has made me very sad, maybe just a time of deep depression, what a senseless waste.

I don't know if this is being targeted at just people in Scotland or everyone, but if anyone gets an email from Strathclyde Police telling them they have to pay a fine for watching porn, the police have confirmed that this is a scam which they are investigating.

More on the BBC website

Just mentioning it in case of of us get this email.

Thanks for the warning, El - although that's one scam I definitely would not have fallen for.

Yes, I heard that. "RAF Valley confirmed the prince, serving as Flt Lt William Wales, was the co-pilot of the helicopter which rescued the two survivors. " The sad news is that the search has been called off for the night and they will decide later whether to continue the search. The body of one of the crewmen has been found.

How many are still missing, El?

Yogi19

I think there are still 5 missing. The news is confusing but apparently 5 of the crew were on deck and were wearing survuval suits, but doesn't say if the 2 who have been rescued are amongst the 5 - I would think it likely as the ones rescued would have been able to say. It seems that a colossal wave rolled the vessel over and broke the back of the vessel sinking it.
