I think I've figured it out. Summer had posted "it's" when she meant "it would", ie, it'd.

Anyone watch "The Queens Hidden Cousins" ? Last night on C4. Terribly sad, and as the Queen Mother was patron of Mencap, it seems unbelievable that these 2 girls would just be abandoned in an asylum, one is still alive, the other died and was buried in a paupers grave. In Burkes peerage, it is stated both died at birth. Katherine is still alive, the likeness to the Queen is uncanny
 

Skylark I missed the programme but the attitude that was taken towards any form of mental illness in those days was quite frightening.  The stories you read about young girls being locked up for ever in a mental home simply through getting pregnant, they make you cry.

Yes thats true squiggle. Its sad that these girls were hidden, like they were an embarrassment , which they probably were.

I didn't see the programme either, but a very sad story. The two cousins only reached a mental age of 6, and their father died young when they 11 and 4 respectively leaving their mother to look after them. They were put in the mental hospital 11 years later. When the media printed the story of Nerissa having been buried in a grave with just a plastic tag with her serial number and name on, that lead to a proper gravestone being put there.

I read about that story, isn't it heart breaking how they were treated! I'm so glad the world is a more accepting place today for the mentally handicapped, it is shocking how very recent the changes are though isn't it

I recorded last night's programme and watched it this morning, it was shocking and terribly sad.

Thank goodness public attitudes and care of people with learning disabilities are now greatly improved.

 

My brother will be arriving shortly for another weekend visit so I won't be around much.

Very brief - My brother is here - it's his birthday on Monday after he's gone back, but we are celebrating over the weekend - birthday cake - yummy chocolatey one.

 

He is coming down for Christmas - arrives Christmas Eve lunchtime and stays intil the 29th.

 

I think the weather stays dry over the weekend, but on the cloudy side.

Good morning everyone, what a delicious cake that was Yogi thank you for the drool smiley EL .  I have seen that site to track Santa Summer (its getting a bit confusing what to call you ) but I have never used it, but when my grandsons were younger there was a phone number you could dial to "talk to Santa" and he would tell you where he was. Have a lovely breakfast skylark Squiggle, how stunning are those birds?! Mr summer was out trying to see the starlings do that the other evening, unfortunately they didn't they've been seen locally doing it, I hope to see it for myself one day! Thanks for sharing that picture

Summer I used to work in Leicester Square in London and the starlings used to roost on our building, it was amazing to see them gather and swoop and swirl around, they didn't make patterns like that though.  I couldn't believe the dolphin being followed by the whale.

Squiggle, that pic is fab and the dolphin shape is so good.
