Did you get a photo Ros ?

I'm watching River Cottage on CH4+1, but Hugh's cooking rabbit.

Also mussels, which I hate.

Perhaps I should change channels?

I am veggie but even if I wasn't I couldn't eat rabbit

And they remind me of Thumper from Bambi (I won't eat venison either).

We'll be joining Ros as Veggies at this rate.

We will! Although i do like my bacon butties !  (sorry again Ros!)

My future DiL was veggie for a few years and she said the one thing she really missed was a bacon sandwich.

She now eats chicken, turkey and mince (if it's in a pasta sauce) but doesn't eat other meat. My DiL is the same.

I have been veggie for about 23 years - just felt it was healthier as my family are prone to high blood pressure and a veggie diet is supposed to stop it - but do hate thinking of animals being killed

I remember my middle son announcing he wanted to become a veggie ( he was about 10), but he didn't last long because he missed his bacon butties.

night yogi and skylark

Rocking Ros Rose

Good morning everyone, its a horrible morning here, hope its better where you are.

I hardly ever eat red meat nowadays, not from a conscious choice just the way things work out I suppose.  I respect anyone's choice in what they eat but of course if we were all to turn veggie then there would be no cattle in the fields or sheep or pigs. Farmers are struggling as it is and I don't think many dairy farmers make a decent profit from their milk supplies.  I have never eaten venison and I was a little shocked in Scotland to come across a deer farm where you could pop in and buy venison steaks. For some reason it seemed cruel, whereas of course we don't turn a hair to see cattle in the fields.  Illogical I know but I suppose it was just because it was uncommon (to me).

squiggle

Squiggle, it maybe because of whenever people see deer, they think conciously or subconciously of Bambi, and how could one eat Bambi. Or think of Landseer's Monarch of the Glen. But back in medieval times, those who were wealthy would think nothing of eating venison - just think of the stories of Robin Hood poaching the king's deer.

Good morning everyone.Showery weather for us up here.

^^^^^ I agree, El. I know I always think of Thumper and Bambi when I see rabbits or deer, and Skippy when I see kangaroos (not that there are many kangaroos in Scotland but you know what I mean).

I don't eat veal either because I hate the way the veal calves are raised.

Squiggle, I understand where you are coming from on the farming issue, and agree with you.

I have a lot of respect for farmers.

I grew up in a small town within a pretty rural area. My dad helped on local farms as a teenager and became close friends with a dairy farmer. Every May, my dad would take a week's leave from work and we would stay at the farm to let the farmer go on holiday. Long days and very hard work for my dad, but I have so many good memories of that time; newborn kittens and calves, feeding the chickens, collecting the eggs, helping to milk the cows (by machine, not hand), collecting gooseberries and rosehips, helping at haytime and riding on top of the bales of hay on the tractor and trailer - I loved every minute of it!

Good morning everyone.    I'm pleased to report that the sun is shining here.  I think it should stay that way for most of the day.

Sorry I've not been about but I've been so busy and my penfriend will be here in less than 24 hours!!  I've managed to read back over the time I missed.  Loved the rainbow picture Squiggle.  I agree with not eating venison or veal but I eat almost any other meat.

I won't be about now for a couple of weeks but will be thinking about you all.  If I get the chance I will try and drop in to read what you have been getting up to but I doubt I will be able to post.  Take care of each other.  Much love.

Joyron
