Good morning everyone

Summer, I used to have an analogue mobile phone many years ago but so rarely used it that I didn't bother to switch to a digital one when the analogue signal was switched off. I'm not someone who gets the latest tech gadget when it comes on the market. Although I do have a DABS radio as it is not a portable one, the radio I use every day is a small Pye 1416 radio I was given almost 40 years ago. The only photo I've seen on this is:

I don't even have a microwave oven.

El Loro

Good morning everyone. Weather is still very wet and blustery.

El, I think it's great that you are still using a radio which is over 40 years old - things were built to last in the old days.

I have a mobile phone but hardly ever use it, and I only recently taught myself how to text. Thus far, I have sent  total of 4 texts, and one of those read "I can text", which I sent to Mr Yogi - he wasn't terribly impressed.

I do have a microwave and use it regularly.

Yogi19

Good morning everyone, a much brighter morning here today.

Summer you must have been shattered, well done on taking no nonsense from your colleague and Yay! for your day off.

I am the same, hardly ever use my mobile phone, it comes in handy when I am out, gives me peace of mind in case of car emergencies because I live in the country.  EL I am sure we had a radio like that when I was still living at home with my parents, a very good radio it was too.  We wouldn't stand a chance of getting a DAB signal here so if they turn off the analogue I would only be able to get radio through the internet.

I was tired out last night and forgot to lock the door - eek I could have been murdered in my bed 'cept hardly anyone comes up this lane.

squiggle

Squiggle, on my television (Freeview) I can get the digital radio stations (700 section). And on Sky, you can get the same starting with Radio 1 on 0101.And on Virgin Cable in the 900 section.

I'm on Freeview and where I live, I get the Central version of ITV on channel 3, and the South West version on channel 800.

El Loro
morning all It started out sunny here but is now gloomy & showery! The birds are starting to line up too Yogi I hope you feel better after your sleep & squiggle please be careful, although I've done the same thing myself in the past El that radio is fab! I hope you keep it forever I love radio, I use it all day at work as well as in the car, and at home on sky, my iPhone and my favourite; my first birthday gift from mr summer was a DAB radio that I keep beside the bed I'm thrilled that jazz fm has finally gone national!

I'm smiling at the way you worded that, and not the idea of you being murdered in your bed.

Summer, I hope you have a lovely relaxing day off. You deserve it after the last few days.

How long I keep my radio depends as to when the government decides to switch the analogue signal off. They are committed to doing so but won't until 50% of radios are DAB ones. But apparently DAB is in the process of changing to DAB+, which from what I've read means that the older DAB ones which people have bought wouldn't work which wont please the several million people who have got them. And of course, there is the issue of car radios, so it doesn't seem likely that the switch off of analogue won't be until well after 2015 which was the government's intention.

El Loro

Good afternoon everyone.    What a difference a day makes.  It was lovely and sunny this morning but it has clouded over now, however no rain thank goodness.

Hope you are all well today.  Summer enjoy your day off and rest up.  El Loro, my hubby has several older items such as radios and record players.  He won't through anything away which he thinks will come in handy.  I don't know what will happen when we sell up and leave this house.  He will need to hire a unit just to store the stuff in that he won't throw away!!

Hope to get back later, depending on when hubby arrives home.

Joyron

Joyron, your hubby sounds rather like my late parents  - you will remember the time it took me to go through their books. I never mentioned the old equipment they never got rid of, record players, speakers, amplifiers etc.

Many many years ago either the late 50s or 60s, my father bought a kit for I think an amplifier. When I say a kit, it was all of the components necessary to build one. No printed circuit boards in those days, there were hundreds of individual items including capacitors, resistors and transistors. Everything needed to be soldered into place and it took my father weeks to assemble, and it did work. Money was tight in those days, so it was a case of making it yourself or doing without.

When he was younger he had a number 10 Meccano set. That was the top of the range set and came in a wooden case. He sold it and used the proceeds to buy his first piano. That set would be a collector's item - there's one currently for sale on Ebay - asking price ÂĢ1,495 which just shows that it was no children's toy. I imagine that he saw the construction of the amplifier as a step forward from constructing something from Meccano.

El Loro

Good evening everyone.    Just a quick visit!!  Seems we are not destined to meet up today Squiggle.

Your father and my husband sound very similar El Loro.  That said Hubby can often find that little item in his "collection", when no one else can find what is needed.  It will still be a nightmare when the time comes to move.  I thought packing up the house would be difficult but that's nothing compared to what hubby will have to sort out.  It will break his heart if he has to dispose of some of his precious stuff!!    Personally I would just hire a skip and drop everything in it.  That's what I intend doing with the stuff I cannot pass onto the charity shops etc.

Will catch up with you all again tomorrow.  At long last I'm off to speak to the doctor about the changes in my medications in the morning.  Wish me luck!!

Joyron
Good luck joyron I hope you get sorted El your dad does sound very interesting, I love hear about other people's families & stories! I've had a good day, half housework, half relaxation and I squeezed in a quick 20 mins workout (which felt tiring at the time but I feel great now) I'm restlessly anticipating whether our puppy is to be or not, stream showed early signs of pregnancy but isn't showing a belly, which is making us think it's a no. But that's apparently common too and a belly sometimes appears literally in the last week we'll know for sure either way in 3 weeks time
~Sparkling Summer~

Good evening everyone.

Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow, Joyron. I hope you get things sorted out to your satisfaction.

Summer, I'll keep my fingers crossed for Stream - it's a pity they dont have pregnancy tests for dogs. I'm glad you managed to fit in some relaxation, in between your housework and exercise.

Squiggle, good to hear you are securely locked up - that came out wrong, but I hope you know what I mean.

El, your dad sounds like he was a really interesting character. I have a tendency to hoard but Mr Yogi is a "chucker", so the balance is maintained in our house.

Yogi19

Joyron, I hope you get your medication sorted out to your satisfaction tomorrow

Your hubby sounds a bit like the Alun Armstrong character in "New Tricks" in having his "collection".

Summer, sounds as if you have recovered from the horrors that came in your salon on Monday.

Squiggle, better to be safe than sorry

Yogi, I agree with you that it's good to hear that squiggle is securely locked up, we don't want her roaming over Exmoor in the middle of the night, particularly next Monday when it's a full moon

Ultrasound tests did cross my mind but I thought no you're just being silly

I don't think you are being silly, I'm sure I saw sheep getting ultrasounds on an episode of River Cottage. It's maybe considered too expensive a procedure for pets.

Squiggle is getting a bit of a reputation here.

We really love you, Squiggle.

I love Alun Armstrong's character in New Tricks, he plays the part of Brian Lane so well.

Good morning everyone. The sun is shining up here.

El, I love that the Exmoor Beast in the clip was actually called Tibbles.

Squiggle, I hope the weather improves for you before you have to go out.

Excellent news on the book front, sounds like it is going to be a great success.

Ros, sorry I've been awol from the CBB thread. I've been really tired the last few nights and had to have a couple of early nights. I've been catching up on the "excitement" on the daytime repeats. I will be there for the final tonight - I might as well seee it through to the end.

Summer, do you know what causes the grey screen, and does that mean you can't see any replies at all? Of course, I have realised that you'll need to wait until your screen clears before you can read my question.

Yogi19

Summer, there's no wide pictures or odd HTML text on this page, so I don't understand why you have a grey screen

Squiggle, I thought you would like that clip . Sounds as if your book is selling like hot cakes (sorry, couldn't resist that ). Here, the weather is cloudy, breezy, but dry at present, but it's the type of weather where one would be advised to take a coat to be on the safe side.

I've just returned from my bank where I've been sorting out my savings. I had already done my research, so it was a case of telling them what I wanted rather than them giving me advice. There was one piece of information which the cashier failed to give to me. I was already aware of that and so I told her that she had missed that and she apologised. A tracker bond account over a certain level has interest credited gross. Most interest is paid net of tax. This means that people have to cough up the tax on those trackers bonds and therefore need to complete a tax return. The cashier knew this but should have told me as most people in that situation would not have known that they would have to tell the Revenue and pay over the tax. This only applies to tracker bonds over a certain level. (A tracker bond is more attractive than a fixed rate bond as although the interest rate may be slightly less at the beginning, if interest rates do start to go up, the tracker rate would go up, but the fixed rate stays the same).

Yogi, I'm glad you like that little clip. Of course, when I posted my clip I had to word my post in such a way that didn't give anything away I hope you are feeling more refreshed and "enjoy" tonight's final, and then of course tomorrow night BB itself starts so you will want to see that for all its "excitement".

El Loro
I can see again now It's likely to be the exmoor beast pic! But don't worry, sometimes pics give me the grey screen, other times they don't appear and other times they fully load! When I get the grey screen I can't see anything at all, but I do pop in & out of the thread in the hope that it corrects BEST NEWS EVER ABOUT DOWNTON thanks el I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!! Squiggle, that's great about your book I hope it goes well for you today Yogi I hope your early nights are helping Have any of you been watching Rising: rebuilding ground zero? It's on nightly at 8pm on discovery, and their website has lots of info. Fascinating stuff

I can hardly contain myself.

If it comes close to the drivel we have been subjected to in CBB, then I'm afraid I will stop watching very quickly.

Glad you are back with us, Summer. I am also looking forward to Downton Abbey, but I can't believe the silly programme planners have made it clash with the fabulous Spooks. Thank heavens I can V+ them.

Yogi19

Good afternoon everyone.    Hope you are all well.    Sorry you have been having trouble with your screen Summer!!

Why do the the BBC and ITV keep putting good programmes up against one another.  Good job I have Sky+.  I shall be recording both programmes as I sometimes need to re-watch, particularly if I get a phone call in the middle of an episode!!  I'm sad that it's the last series of Spooks but I suppose the writers want to go out on a high.

I have not watched any of the Celebrity BB and I don't suppose I will watch the normal BB either.  I will record the launch night to see whose who but once I've wizzed through that I won't watch the HL shows.

So pleased to hear that the cookery book sales are going well Squiggle.  Cannot wait to get my copy.

Joyron

Hi Joyron

It does seem a bit odd that the BBC have decided to show Spooks at the same time as Downton Abbey. I'm sure that the other series of Spooks have been shown on weekdays. It probably comes down to a ratings war between the BBC and ITV, with the BBC gambling that because it's the last series of Spooks people won't want to miss it.
