I've had enough of these storms -  just go away

Hope all are well

Glass half full in this nightmare world. Faith

All's well here, Velvet and I hope you're OK

Yellow here too, Slim

At the rate these storms are being named, the Met Office will run out of the names in their list. 9th named storm and the list has 21 names.

It seems that there were problems on Thursday with the Five USA channel though I don't know if this was on Freeview only. For much of the time the sound was not working normally. It was possible to use subtitles in place of the sound. If a programme has been recorded, I found that by using the fast forward button by one notch, then the sound can be heard though of course the programme won't take as long as normal.
Seems to have affected only Five USA and was back to normal by Friday.

It's not a channel I've watched I don't think El

Slim films on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week:
Wednesday 7.00 am "Patterns" a 1956 film about big business ethics in a NY corporation. The director Fielder Cook generally made television films, and had made a tv film with the same name the previous year. That was highly regarded so he made a cinema film version.

Thursday 15.10 "Blossom Time" (1934) a British adaptation of an opera by Heinrich BertÃĐ based on the Austrian composer Franz Schubert and an unrequited love for a dance master's daughter. Schubert was played by Richard Tauber, an Austrian tenor/actor, Well regarded at the time.

Saturday 15.35 "Batman" (1966) the film version of the tv series with Adam West. Entertaining provided you don't take it seriously as it's very tongue in cheek.

Three films worth a watch I'm thinking

I don't suppose it would surprise you to know, that Batman has never been my hero, however, it'll be interesting to see how much he has changed

Thank you El

Good morning everyone

Less gusty here than yesterday. The strongest gust was 43.7 mph according to the local weather recording station so not as bad as forecast and a lot worse elsewhere. Just over 12 mm of rain though which won't be good for those who had been flooded recently. There's another spell of rain and wind tomorrow but forecasters saying it's not a repeat of Storm Isha,

I hope none of you have had property damage from the storm

I hope everyone has a good day

Glad to see you're okay El

Reports have said we had winds of up to 70mph last night and are due more tomorrow, though not quite so strong.
Sadly there was a death up in Fife

Thanks Slim
There's a report on the BBC that an 84 year man died when a car he was a passenger in crashed into a tree at Grangemouth near Falkirk yesterday The original report had mistakenly said Fife.

The simplistic answer is an active jet stream causing more storms, Slim
But that raises the question as to why is the jet stream causing this. Is it in part caused by there being an El Nino event? That started in the Pacific last summer and can affect other areas eventually. Has there been a sudden stratospheric warming in the polar vortex? That can have quite an effect on the weather. Is this a result of global warming? A warmer atmosphere can hold more water than a colder one so cam result in more extreme weather events. Also if oceans are warmer, that results in less ice in the polar regions so more water in the oceans which can get into the atmosphere. There are those who consider that it's mankind which is causing global warming. There are those who don't accept that and put global warming to natural causes either on Earth or from the Sun for instance, There are those who don't consider that there's such a thing as global warming.

Possibly a mixture of all of the above El...

Whilst I wouldn't dream of disputing global warming, I can't help but think it can't just be down to man behaving badly.
The Ice age springs to mind...now that wasn't manmade and unless it was caused by massive amounts of methane in dinosaur poop, it had to have been a natural event.
I tend to believe what some are saying in that the earth is heading towards another catastrophic event of it's own accord, but that we are helping to get there quicker.
