A BBC photo of the flooded part of the A38 at Longford:

The water does not appear to be high enough to get into homes there though. Although comparisons are being made with the 2007 floods, then the water was almost at knee levels.

Peak of the river Severn is this morning though it will take days to subside,

There are some homes in Gloucester which have been evacuated but those are on Alney Island, The Severn  splits into two at Maisemore and then merges into one at Gloucester to the west, The land which is between the treo sections is Alney Island. There are a few houses at the Gloucester end of Alney Island.

Worse than I had thought in Longford with homes having been flooded

Although the flooding at Longford doesn't seem to be as bad as in 2007, one woman who lives there told the BBC that it's worse than the previous flooding there which was in 2012. She said that it's been made worse than 2012 due to all the building which has been done in Longford since.

Since 2012, a small estate has been built in Longford on an area of land known to be liable to flooding, Although measures were taken to minimise the risk of flooding on that estate.

People already living in Longford weren't happy about the building as when the river breaks its banks the flood water has to go somewhere. And I think they may be thinking that what's happening now is the result of that building.

Good morning everyone

Fairly cloudy here with some sunshine at times  A high of 7ˆ forecast and a low of 1° tonight. Getting colder but forecast to be dry for over a week.

Media referring to a cold snap lasting a week. The week is based on the official cold alert but that only ever lasts a week. Looking at longer term forecasts, the cold will continue for somewhat longer than a week. Later this month there may be the return of milder wetter weather from the southwest,

I hope everyone has a good day

I knew someone, a  clergyman, who at Christmas time when putting up Christmas cards would put to one side any showing the three wise men/kings/magi. Then one Twelfth Night took the cards down and on the following day (today) would put up the cards with the wise men. That's because the Epiphany season starts on the 6th.

Incidentally, in the bible there's no mention of how many magi/wise men were there and they 're not described as kings, and aren't named.

They probably couldn't fit many more than three kings on stage El

Slim, little new of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week. The 15.10 film on Thursday is one they've shown before. Next Sunday at 6 in the morning is a minor British comedy "Kiss the Bride Goodbye" (1945). Stars Patricia Medina as a young woman whose mother wants her to marry her pompous boss but she loves a soldier (Jimmy Hanley). Apparently it's a bit risque for a 1940s film. On a point of trivia, he sister is played by Jean Simmons in a very early role.

Slim, Film 4 is showing the Ealing comedy "Hue and Cry" (1947) tomorrow at 5.05 pm. That's the first of their classic comedies. A gang of boys in London foil a gang of crooks. The most recognisable of the boys is their leader Joe Kirby who was played by Harry Fowler who had a long career in films and television. Alastair Sim is in the cast.

Oooh thanks El, I shall put that on to record if I don't get the chance to watch it

Gritters being deployed in the county today due to some snow forecast this evening. Drivers being told again not to drive along roads closed due to flooding as that can spread the water elsewhere which then freezes over.
Tonight, tomorrow night and Wednesday night likely to be icy where snow has fallen.

Well, I hope that those driving on the roads are extra careful El

I doubt we'll have snow here but one never knows...we could be lucky!
