Some sunshine here now

Yesterday I got one of those automated scam phone calls re a couple of suspicious payments on my debit card.
Today I needed to change the bank account details I had on my online banking service as the company I was paying had changed theirs. As usual when I was setting that up, the bank rings me to get me to enter a code so show that the payment is genuine. But I didn't get a phone call. I found out that it had done to the Virgin voicemail. Worked OK the second time I tried.
Later this morning I got another automated scam phone call about a couple of suspicious payments on my card.
Just a coincidence. The scam calls don't name the bank, different payments, and different phone numbers shown on caller display. Quite often the scammers will ring more than one within a few days to try to make people think they are genuine.

The scammers are in their element at this time of year....scumbags!

When my bank first initiated texting a code through for verification, I thought it annoying, but now I am glad that they do

You may have seen this news item about a light aircraft having to make an emergency landing on the A40 Golden Valley bypass:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-...cestershire-66468326
Luckily, no one was injured and no vehicles on the bypass were involved. Happened just before 6 pm last evening so the road would have been very busy,
The bypass re-opened a couple of hours later.

A news update on that plane which landed on the bypass with a report by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau/ A bit inconclusive as to what caused the engine failure:

Slim, not much new of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week. The 1930d film at 15.10 on Thursday is the British comedy "Cheer Boys Cheer" (1939) about two rival breweries.
In the cast are Nova Pilbeam who was in a couple of Hitchcock's 1930s films (the original "The Man who Knew too Much" and "Young and Innocent") and Edmund Gwenn ("Miracle on 34th Street"). Also Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriot who were in many of Will Hay's comedies.
An early Ealing Studios production and seen as a prototype of their later comedy classics,

My brother's BT landline was switched to VOIP a few days ago. I rang him this morning. Phone rang twice then a recorded voice  said that the caller was aware that I was ringing, then there were about three or four rings and then the BT voicemail was triggered.
We later found out that's what happens when he's already on the land phone and it's in place of the engaged ringing tone. It seems that there's a short beep sound on my brother's phone which signifies that someone has just tried ringing him.
Not something which BT had mentioned would happen.
