@El Loro posted:Slim, little new of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the couple of weeks.
There's the 1966 remake of "Stagecoach" on Wednesday in the afternoon which I had mentioned recently. I've never bothered to watch it as it's not as good as the original. Has Bing Crosby in it, but I don't think he sings anything during the film. They seem to be having another season of rarely shown films from the 1930s on Thursday afternoons, That George Formby film I mentioned a week ago was one of the, The next one on Thursday is "Mimi" (1935). Seems to be a very poor film. It's based on a French novel written in 1851. That novel was adapted by Puccini into his opera "La Bohème". The film has the same story but isn't a film version of the opera though uses some of the music.
The character of Mimi was played by Gertrude Lawrence who was well known for her stage work. Her last major stage work as the original Anna in "The King and I". Her life story was made into "Star!" (1968) with Julie Andrews.
Thank you El
I remember the original 'Stagecoach'...a somewhat eventful journey
Don't think I've seen 'Mimi'...nor 'Star'.
Have seen 'The King & I' of course...the Yul Brynner version ...several times
