Slim, little new of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the couple of weeks.
There's the 1966 remake of "Stagecoach" on Wednesday in the afternoon which I had mentioned recently.  I've never bothered to watch it as it's not as good as the original.  Has Bing Crosby in it, but I don't think he sings anything during the film.

They seem to be having another season of rarely shown films from the 1930s on Thursday afternoons, That George Formby film I mentioned a week ago was one of the, The next one on Thursday is "Mimi" (1935). Seems to be a very poor film. It's based on a French novel written in 1851. That novel was adapted by Puccini into his opera "La Bohème". The film has the same story but isn't a film version of the opera though uses some of the music.
The character of Mimi was played by Gertrude Lawrence who was well known for her stage work. Her last major stage work as the original Anna in "The King and I". Her life story was made into "Star!" (1968) with Julie Andrews.

Thank you El

I remember the original 'Stagecoach'...a somewhat eventful journey
Don't think I've seen 'Mimi'...nor 'Star'.

Have seen 'The King & I' of course...the Yul Brynner version ...several times

Had someone knocking on the door just now, Man said he'd put a leaflet through my letterbox yesterday (true). Asked of I was wanting to sell any gold or jewelry items. I said that I wasn't interested.

He may be genuine but he might not be.

Whether he was genuine or not El, it's not exactly something you want to discuss on your doorstep is it, and so I'm guessing he would have expected you to invite him into your home, which is not an ideal postion to put yourself in...

Glad you said No. to him

There's a name and address on the flyer I got yesterday. The address per Google Maps is a house. There's a phone number on the flyer but it's a mobile. A search for the name doesn't come up with anything such as a website.

I don't do business with people who go round knocking on doors.

It's been quite some time since I had a scam phone call from supposedly Domestic and General., Just had one now. As soon as the caller said it was their refund department I knew it was a scam and so ended the call.

The way the scam works is that the caller claims that they can't continue with the contract (for say a washing machine) so are repaying the cost for the remaining period. If you say that you haven't paid them anything they will insist that you did and that you've forgotten. They have to repay via the credit/debit card I used to pay them originally and can't send a cheque. So they need to confirm the card details are correct. They will quote the card number you used. And when you say that you don't have a card with the number, they will say that the card number must have changed so to give them the current number. Oh, and, no doubt they will insist that you give them that 3 digit number on the back of the card.

It's quite shocking how many people still fall for scams like this El, despite all the warnings given.
I'm glad you're not one of them
