I have as many theories as there are groups but none of them apply to all the groups

Moonie, I worked out that at the end of each game, if one side has won they get 3 points and the other side 0 points so what you would expect.
It's what happens if the game is drawn. As usual each side gets 1 point. But then the game goes to a penalty shootout with the eventual winner getting an extra point.
For example Group A where the 5 teams have played 2 games each. Aston Villa won both so are on 6 points. Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers lost both so are on 0 points. Durham won one (3 points), drew the other (1 point) and won the shootout (1 point) so a total of 5 points.  That drawn match must have been against Sunderland. Sunderland won one (3 points) and drew the other (1 point) so a total of 4 points.

I was puzzled when I spotted that table as to get 5 points after 2 games wouldn't make sense. 0, 1, 2 (1+1), 3, 4 (3+1) or 6 (3+3) yes, but not 5.So there was something I was missing. Then I realised that it had to be something to do such as a penalty shootout. And that's what it was. (Durham won the shootout against Sunderland 3-1)

Good morning everyone

The wind direction is now from the north and it's getting colder. Forecast to become a sunny day here, temperature tonight expected to get down to around freezing. In this part of the country, the cold snap is currently forecast to last about two weeks, not expecting any significant snow.

I hope everyone has a good day

If one looks at the League 1 table as it stands after this afternoon's matches, taking the number of points from the last 5 games of the teams in the bottom half, they show an interesting result. The team which has got most points (10) is Cheltenham. Still deep in the relegation zone but it's clear that the new manager is having an effect.

Slim, little new of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the couple of weeks.
There's the 1966 remake of "Stagecoach" on Wednesday in the afternoon which I had mentioned recently.  I've never bothered to watch it as it's not as good as the original.  Has Bing Crosby in it, but I don't think he sings anything during the film.

They seem to be having another season of rarely shown films from the 1930s on Thursday afternoons, That George Formby film I mentioned a week ago was one of the, The next one on Thursday is "Mimi" (1935). Seems to be a very poor film. It's based on a French novel written in 1851. That novel was adapted by Puccini into his opera "La BohÃĻme". The film has the same story but isn't a film version of the opera though uses some of the music.
The character of Mimi was played by Gertrude Lawrence who was well known for her stage work. Her last major stage work as the original Anna in "The King and I". Her life story was made into "Star!" (1968) with Julie Andrews.
