@Moonie posted:You’ve had some good service out of that clutch then El
Adequate usage, Moonie. Car has done a bit under 50k miles over the years and a clutch should last at least 60k. But most of my mileage is on short journeys rather than long motorway journeys. So that means using the clutch much more.
Mixed news re my car. Turned out that the belts I thought needed to be replaced didn't and the tyres were OK. So the MOT/service was just over £320.
I was told on the phone that a gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. Turned out that it's not the head gasket which needs replacing (expensive) but a gasket over the cambelt. Cambelt would be due for replacement in the next year anyway. So I'm getting the cambelt and gasket replaced later this month - £468.

Nothing's cheap about maintaining a car is it
@slimfern posted:Nothing's cheap about maintaining a car is it
No, it's not, Slim
Though when I had the cambelt replaced before, that was done by Bristol Street Motors and they charged me some £600 then, so it's cheaper this time. Nowadays I use a local repair place which is about a 10 minute walk from here.

Very handy to have a place just round the corner, especially one that charges mates rates

I doubt that they charge mates rates but it's a local business

I hope everyone has a good day
Moonie, Cheltenham lost 0-2 against Fleetwood who are just above them. New manager's first match in charge. He has a 2 year contract. Team needs to be completely rebuilt. My guess is that they'll be the first team in the country to be relegated, the players sold off st the end of this season and a new team brought in aiming for promotion next season.I think that's why he was given a 2 year contract rather than 1.
(I don't think such a restructuring could take place in the next window as less time and a smaller number of possible new players available)
I see your side won last night.

Sorry you lost El…but the new manager does need am minimum of 2 years to build a new team
My guess is it will take a little longer than two years but we will see
Tut tut El…relegation in a “swear” word , never to be used
My Blades mate in South Yorkshire will be glad we beat the Wendys

I like the owl one
I note that the BBFC has passed the 1936 film "Fury" for home release. It's been years since I saw this on tv. It was directed by Fritz Lang, his first US film after leaving Germany. Heavyweight film about a man who survives a lynch mob and vows vengeance on them. One of Spencer Tracy's best films. BBFC certified it as a PG.
The film does end on a very positive note so this is not as downbeat as something like "The Oxbow Incident".
@El Loro posted:If I had to pick my favourite it would be the kangaroo one
Yes...the classic rock look
And like Moonie...I like the owl one too....reminds me a little of my late husband

A very good actor
Not related to Lee Tracy, another American film actor. Their lifespans and acting timescales are rather similar but Lee Tracy's acting career wasn't anywhere near as notable as Spencer's.
Spencer 1900-1967 - acting 1930-1967 (he died shortly after completing "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner")
Lee 1898-1968 - acting 1929-1965 (last role was in an American tv programme based on Steptoe and Son but only the pilot episode was made which was unsold so not shown).

Now there's a show I used enjoy watching

I didn't see the series when it was shown. I don't know if my parents ever did but they never talked about it. Oddly enough, when one of the two spin off films got shown on television, I did see it with my father. My mother was away visiting her mother. Can't remember which of the two films it was as it wasn't that good

The series however was fun to watch..

@El Loro posted:Slim, little of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week.
There's a minor British 1939 film "Mrs Pym of Scotland Yard" on Tuesday at 14.30. Back in the 1930s there was a series of detective stories with Mrs Pym getting involved in mystery murders which was written by Nigel Morland who adapted one of these for this film, Mrs Pym is an eccentric detective. Film was intended to be the first of a series of films but that didn't happen, In the supporting cast was Nigel Patrick as a reporter and this was his film debut.
Got round to watching this film. It was watchable but clearly a low budget film. Mildly interesting to see a young Nigel Patrick and an early film of Irene Handl's.
Mrs Pym was played by Mary Clare in the one film where she was the lead. She was a notable stage actress. Notable film of hers was Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes" where she played the part of the somewhat shady Baroness Athena.
I did wonder if Margaret Rutherford had seen the film years before she made her Miss Marple films.
love the turtle/dragonfly, owl and kangeroo thank you EL
Good morning everyone
Similar weather here as yesterday, very cloudy start and forecast to get some sunshine later. A degree or so higher than yesterday.
No sign in the BBC or Met Office forecasts that the reported highs of 29° happen here this weekend. BBC's gets to a high of 23, Met Office 22.
I hope everyone has a good day
Came across this recent Youtube clip which is of a youngster playing a piece of music by the Italian composer Antonio Bazzini in 1852 called "Dance of the Goblins".
Must be a tv talent show of some sort.
It's an entertaining jolly piece of music.
I think the show is probably the Russian programme "Country of Talents":

Anastasia is playing a balalaika in the clip.
