Heavy rain here at present, the weather station under a miles away has it as dry

Many years ago I was in a car as a passenger going along the Golden Valley bypass. Looking at the sky through the windows on the left side was 100% dark clouds, on the right side, 100% clear blue sky.

Heavy rain on and off here...currently the sun is out...but for how long

There was a road near where we lived a few years ago called Ley Lane....possibly it was on a ley line (who knows), but occasionally it would rain on one side of the road but be dry just a few feet from the other side ....walking the children to and from school was always an adventure

Slim, a couple of heavyweight films on the Talking Pictures tv channel in the coming week.

Tomorrow, Monday, at 20.45 "The Man with the Golden Arm" (1955) directed by Otto Preminger and starred Frank Sinatra and Kim Novak. Crime drama about a recovering heroin addict. Powerful film, originally an X certificate and still rated 15 for drug abuse. Preminger was noted for pushing the boundaries of censorship at the time such as this film.
Opening credits were by Saul Bass and this was his breakthrough film in film credits.

Sunday at 22.00 "Elmer Gantry" (1960) starred Burt Lancaster and Jean Simmons. Travelling salesman teams up with an evangelist. Lancaster won his only Oscar,

Both are notable films though very serious.

Thank you El

I can see why they are considered heavyweight...
Apart from having some highbrow actors in them, the storylines depicting unacceptable behaviours....drug abuse and religious corruption aren't what most people want to see in their lives.
I see that the second film was even banned in some cities of America.

Thanks Slim

I know the Sinclair Lewis novel "Elmer Gantry" was banned in a number of American cities when it was published in 1927, but not sure that happened with the film. One key change between the novel and the film was that in the book, Gantry was an ordained minister, but not in the film

Just had a phone call supposedly from Online Support Company claiming that I had paid them for support in 2019, that they could not longer provide the support, so were ringing me to refund me. They said that my debit card I used  to pay then ended with ****. None of my cards end with that number, Could they send me a cheque for the refund. No, they had to repay me in the same way I'd paid so wanted my card details. I ended the call. I knew it was a scam as I've never paid a support subscription and obviously the 4 digit card number they said was just a random number.

Thankfully you have your wits about you El, I wonder how many poor unfortunates they will have had believing them
