It’s very humid here and the dark clouds are beginning to gathering

Dark clouds here and there's some rain, I've heard some rumbles of thunder in the distance but those don't seem to be coming this way. The rain isn't particularly heavy and I don't think will amount to much. Looks more likely to get some thunderstorms tomorrow evening and Monday afternoon here.

Met Office has just issued amber warnings for thunderstorms for the western part of England and eastern part of Wales covering:
North West England

  • Cheshire East
  • Cheshire West and Chester
  • Greater Manchester
  • Halton
  • Lancashire
  • Merseyside
  • Warrington
Wales
  • Denbighshire
  • Flintshire
  • Powys
  • Wrexham
West Midlands
  • Herefordshire
  • Shropshire
  • Staffordshire
  • Telford and Wrekin
  • Warwickshire
  • West Midlands Conurbation
  • Worcestershire

Slim, a couple of films on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week.
On Tuesday at 14.20 is "Daisy Kenyon" (1947). Drama about a commercial artist having an affair with a married man, she becomes involved with a returning soldier and has to decide between the two. Directed by Otto Preminger who was known for pushing the boundaries in films, so for 1947 the film was quite strong stuff. Interesting cast - Joan Crawford, Dana Andrews and Henry Fonda.

On Friday at 15.20 is "Androcles and the Lion" (1953). A minor film of a lesser play by George Bernard Shaw. Family friendly fare about a Christian (Alan Young) who befriends a lion by removing a thorn from a paw. Later he and other Christians are arrested and condemned to be eaten by lions. Victor Mature and Jean Simmons are also in the cast.
Alan Young replaced another actor 5 weeks into the making of the film. That actor was none other than Harpo Marx in what would have been the only film of his where he spoke.

Thanks El

The second film is one I've possibly seen, although I didn't know that about Harpo Marx.

The first sounds a bit like a emotional dilemma film...one of her own making

There were five Marx brothers. Chico was the oldest, then Harpo, Groucho, Gummo and the youngest, Zeppo.
They were in show business for quite a long time before going into films. Zeppo was a child when they started and wasn't involved. Gummo enlisted during WW1 and afterwards went into business with Zeppo taking over. Although Zeppo was in the earlier films, he too left and went into business.

This is an image of some sheet music which was published in 1917 so years before their films.

From left to right, Harpo, Groucho, Chico and Gummo. The song was a popular barbershop style song of the time.

Didn't realise there were 5 of them, have only ever seen three of them in a couple of films.
Funny films and yet annoying

What's the betting that has something to do with the school pick up traffic causing problems in adjacent roads ...

I'm trying to avoid that area for the time being as the road tends to have lots of parked cars much of the time and worse when parents are dropping off or collecting their children.
