Many years ago we were at a client's offices in Cheltenham. One afternoon, our senior partner was visiting us. He came into the room carrying a large suitcase.
He needed to phone another client who was also based in Cheltenham.

So he picked up that suitcase, put it on the table, opened it to reveal this massive radio phone. Once he got it set up, he proceeded to try to ring the client.
A complete failure as he was unable to get a signal strong enough for the phone to work.

He would have been better off by just walking round to the client as their building was only a couple of hundred metres away (or just using an ordinary phone).

We never saw that suitcase again

One of the couriers at my last workplace had one of those El

I used to have a Pericom - mobile computer floppy disc.

Feck knows how i carried through the undergound. It was a suitcase

Back in the 1980s we would go out on audits with Compaq "portable" computers which were similar in size to computers.
One of the others had been working in London and was coming back home. She was at one of the underground stations and put the computer on the ground as it was heavy. A man came, picked up the computer and started walking off with it, She followed the man, stopped him and said "can I have my computer back" and he gave it back to her.She was quite slight in build, didn't think about how risky it was going after the man, and the man must have given it back not expecting to be challenged.

Huge outage on Virgin Media internet earlier across the country. Starting to come back. I had been unable to get here or look at emails. Very odd problems as people were able to access some websites but not others. I was able to access the BBC site including iplayer and Youtube but not broadband speed checker sites

In my area, it lasted until shortly after 8.30 this morning.
'Virgin Media haven#t said what caused the problem other than to say 45 minutes ago that "broadband services have been restored but are closely monitoring the situation as our engineers continue to investigate"

It now appears to be back up and running, though in a reduced form.

At least I managed to get in here okay this morning

Although you and I have been able to get to sites, according to the Down Detector site there was another outage at about 5 this morning. Virgin Media status still referring to a widespread network issue on their status checker and haven't said that the problem(s) have been dealt with.
