With the help of the support people for the accounts/tax software I use for clients I've been able to sort out an issue relating to filing client company accounts at Companies House via the software.
When I used the Companies House validator (to check that the accounts would be validated when submitted) I got various error messages. That's the issue which has been sorted out today.

There had been a different issue. I would need a presenter ID and code from Companies House. To apply for those there's an application form to be able to file accounts but I couldn't use that as that requires me to have my own limited company. Alternatively there's an application form for getting a presenter credit account set up. With that application form I don't have to have my own limited company but I don't want a credit account as there's no Companies House fee for filing company accounts
So over the years I've had to either send accounts through the post or use Companies House webfiling system for filing micro-entity accounts which means typing in the figures again.
In the near future Companies House will be requiring full accounts to be filed online. So no longer possible to use the post and typing in the accounts via webfiling would take a lot more work than at present.
So I applied for a credit account, put nil in the expected level of monthly business, and sent in the application with an explanatory covering letter.
And, somewhat to my surprise, that worked. I've got the presenter ID and code for just filing accounts even though I don't have my own limited company.

I've been sorting this out in advance before I'll be filing any company client accounts but it seemed to be sensible to get it dealt with now rather than later.

Well done El
HMRC/Companies House do like to make life difficult for users at times
And it seems to me that if they can make a buck or two out of the user, then they will

Good for you sticking for to a no fee policy

Thanks Slim

It's Companies House which doesn't charge a fee to companies for filing their accounts. I do charge fees for my work to clients otherwise I wouldn't be earning anything, my fee is inclusive of filing accounts and returns with HMRC and with Companies House so I don't charge s separate fee for that

I note that there's a British WW2 film called "The Red Beret" AKA "Paratrooper" (1953) starring Alan Ladd on television today. The film is only for fans of that genre but has a trivia point of interest. Directed by Terence Young, produced by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, and co-written by Richard Maibaum. Nine years later, they started the James Bond films.

I thought I would repost a story from 2016 that I wrote for Yogi's granddaughter when she was young and we referred to her as PB.

PB and the pumpkin

Once upon a time a little girl called PB was playing in the wood when she saw a cottage, She knocked on the door but there was no answer. The door wasn't locked and she went inside the cottage to have a look. She found a bag containing what looked like large seeds. She took one and went outside the cottage where she had seen a patch of earth. She planted the seed, watered the earth, but nothing seemed to happen. So she went back in the cottage.

PB was feeling hungry and she could smell something nice coming from the kitchen. She went inside and saw a huge plate with three gigantic lemon muffins on. She knew that she shouldn't because her mummy and granny had told her that it was wrong but she couldn't resist taking a bit out of each muffin thinking that no-one would notice, She drank some water from the tap.

It was getting dark and PB was getting sleepy. She went upstairs and saw three beds. She climbed into one of them and fell asleep.

Some hours later she was suddenly woken by a sound coming from downstairs. She looked down and could see three large bears - Loro Bear, Squiggle Bear and Yogi Bear. They went into the kitchen and immediately they said "Someone has been eating our muffins". The bears started coming up the stairs. PB was very frightened. She climbed out of the bedroom window and climbed down the thick vines on the side of the cottage. The bears spotted her through the window and came down the stairs.

PB ran and as she did so she saw that a gigantic stalk had shot up from the ground where she had planted the seed. It seemed to go up and up as far as she could see. So she started climbing up the stalk. Higher and higher she climbed and soon she was in the clouds. The stalk went higher and higher and still she climbed. Eventually she found that the stalk was against the top of a cliff and she was able to climb on to the ground. There were all sorts of strange plants around and she wandered around until she found somewhere comfortable to lie on. She fell asleep.

Some time later she awoke to find a friendly looking strange creature looking at her, The creature spoke to her "Hello, I'm the man in the moon. You can call me Moonie" PB told Moonie her name and told him what had happened. Moonie told her that she had been very naughty and her parents would be very anxious as they would be worried as to what had happened to her.

"I'll help you get home but you must promise never to take things which don't belong to you without asking first". PB promised Moonie.

Moonie went to part of the ground where nothing was growing. "I used to use this ground to grow cabbage patch dolls". Moonie took a seed out of a pocket and put it in the ground. Suddenly it grew into a huge pumpkin. It was big enough for PB to climb into when they scooped and ate the contents.

PB asked Moonie "How can I get home in this pumpkin?" Moonie told PB that he would ask some friendly swans to help. He whistled and 3 swans appeared. Moonie said to them "Velvet, Summer and Ros, will you take this pumpkin and PB back home for me". They nodded and Moonie harnessed them to the pumpkin. PB climbed inside the pumpkin.

PB waved good bye to Moonie and thanked him. The swans flew up with the pumpkin and up and up they went. It took a long time and PB fell asleep.

She woke up to find that she was in her own bed and it was morning. She got up and went downstairs thinking that her parents would tell her off. But they didn't and it dawned on her that it had all been a dream.

But was it, because when she went into their garden, there was a large pumpkin growing where there wasn't before.

Rocking Ros Rose

Minor B film "The Lone Wolf Strikes Back" (1940) on Talking Pictures at 17.00. One of the "Lone Wolf" series of films about a retired & reformed jewel thief turned detective. The lead character Michael Lanyard (AKA The Lone Wolf) was played by a number of actors over the years, in this one Warren William. He has a butler played by Eric Blore so there's some comedy as well.

Louis Joseph Vance was an American writer who wrote the Lone Wolf books starting in 1914.

Chuck Norris did a film called Lone Wolf McQuade too. Just thought I would throw that in

What happened to Cheltenham last night El?

Two up and only managed a draw against Wednesday?

They were playing Sheffield Wednesday, second in the table.
Cheltenham have won 3 games and drawn 2 in March so 11 points out of a possible 15.
In January and February they got a total of 5 points out of a possible 33.
So have gone from being a team looking as it they would be relegated to a team which is looking somewhat safer (but still some weeks to go).
