As you can imagine HMRC does send me a lot of emails they send to those on their mailing lists, the majority of which have little relevance to me or any of my clients. The latest one is about a new tax called plastic packaging tax which came in from 1 April 2022. That tax applies to businesses which either import or manufacture at least 10 tonnes of plastic packaging.
10 tonnes is about 10,000 kilograms or 1,600 stones,
I think it's safe to assume that it's not something I, or any of my clients, need to know about

No!

A worthy tax imo, I just hope the monies collected are used to help clear up plastic waste

The amount of tax charged is ÂĢ200 per tonne where the plastic packaging doesn't include at least 30% recycled. There are exemptions which are logical ones such as plastic used in 1st aid boxes and the plastic used in printer cartridges, It's the disposable packaging which gets taxed.
The tax goes to the Exchequer but the hope is that it will make businesses try to reduce the amount of plastic packaging being used so help to reduce the amount being thrown away

Don't forget to run the car at some points though El to keep the battery going

I asked him and he said leaving the car until this weekend was fine - it's expected to be warmer by then Before he changed the battery he got the engine running for about 10 minutes using his mobile charging cable or whatever it was.

Breakthrough in nuclear fusion energy announced:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/sci...environment-63950962
Although a tiny amount, more energy was created than was put in.

Nuclear fission is what's used for nuclear power stations. Nuclear fission is what happens in stars. Only a tiny amount of material would be needed to produce a huge amount of energy. If it ever become possible to do at an economic price that would sort out energy needs for all. The announcement is big news but it's a small stepping stone in the process.

They still won though El 😉

Yes, they are through to the quarter finals of what is also called Papa Johns Trophy (the sponsors).
Teams from Leagues One and Two plus 16 U-21 teams of teams in the Premier and Championship leagues had been involved. None of the U21 teams got through to the quarter finals stage.
