It has come to my attention that some of the silent film clips I have posted end with the same clip from an unconnected film.
These clips all start with this image:

When you get to the Fin card which looks like this, don't continue watching past that point. My sincere apologies for the offence which the section afterwards will have caused, I won't be posting any further clips from the poster of those clips.

Thanks Slim
I was hoping that no-one had gone past the "Fin"
It's a pity that the poster of the clips included the bit after "Fin" as there are lots of interesting clips by the poster such as early Chaplin films.

Been trying to go through the tax changes announced today.

May be the first time that the rate of national insurance has been changed during the course of a tax year (comes in from 6 November).  Payroll software companies will have to be changing their software to allow for that.
Strange comment regarding directors national insurance. Although they pay the same amount as if they were an employee by the end of a tax year, they pay on a year to date basis so pay little or nothing in the early part of a tax year but pay more in the latter part of a tax year. (that's because directors are more able to decide when to take a bonus and it used to be the case that some would take a huge bonus in one month and were able to pay less NI due to the bonus exceeding the NI threshold so that was changed to stop that happening). The government blurb says that a hybrid rate will be used for them and that the NI will be sorted out in their self assessment tax return. That's strange as tax returns don't cover employee NI. If that's to be done, that's going to make tax returns a lot more complicated than they already are. Would be more sensible just to get the hybrid rate built into the payroll software, that's much less wotk for computer programmers.

I started watching the Chancellor's mini budget, but I'm afraid he lost me after he removed the capping on Bankers bonuses

Must be a nightmare for you as an accountant El, when the changes keep changing

I had to watch the whole speech to see what was going to be announced. I left the room whilst he was going on about bankers bonuses and returned afterwards.
From 1 Timothy chapter 6:
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
