But he resigned from his role on Pointless (though not from the Celebrities one) so that he could concentrate on his writing. So it would seem unlikely unless he had already agreed at the time he stood down from Pointless.
Samira Ahmed is a real possibility:

true EL yes she would be brilliant tbf

Amol Rajan is to take over as the host of University Challenge:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ent...inment-arts-62588667
Used to be the editor of The Independent, has been the BBC media editor (though will give that up) and is one of the hosts of Radio 4's "Today" programme (and will continue).  As part of the work of being the BBC media editor he has also presented Radio 4's "The Media Show" which I listen to sometimes.

Bamber Gascoigne read English literature at Magdalene College, Cambridge.
Jeremy Paxman read English at St Catherine's College, Cambridge.
Amol Rajan read English at Downing College, Cambridge.

@slimfern there was a film on the Talking Pictures tv schedule which I didn't mention. That was on this morning but is on Youtube as it's in the public domain.
"Penny Serenade" (1941) is a melodrama. A couple's big dreams give way to a life full of unexpected sadness and unexpected joy.
It's not a film I've seen as it doesn't appeal to me though it does have quite a high rating. Leads were Irene Dunne and Cary Grant who was nominated for an Oscar for best actor. I think it may be his best film outside his comedies and thrillers.

@slimfern possible films on the Talking Pictures tv channel this coming week:
Tomorrow Monday 13.20 "Perfect Understanding" (1933) An indifferent British romantic comedy with the unusual casting of the leads - Gloria Swanson and Laurence Olivier. Although Gloria Swanson is mainly remembered for "Sunset Boulevard" she had been a major star in the silent film era.
Wednesday 7.10 in the morning "The Riverside Murder" (1935) A minor British crime film notable for being Alastair Sim's film debut (a supporting role).

Friday 6.00 in the morning "The Music Box" (1932) the often shown Laurel & Hardy film which is a strong contender for their best short.
Saturday 13.40 "Battle of the Century" (1927) silent Laurel & Hardy short, the one with the pie throwing battle.

Point of trivia, the steps seen in "The Music Box" are not far away from the road Sunset Boulevard in LA. That road is very very long and the driveway seen in the film "Sunset Boulevard" is nearly 10 miles from the steps.

Thanks El

A bit of Laurel and Hardy comedy never fails

Interested to see Alastair Sim in his debut role, at a reasonable hour though

I always think the Welsh don't get a voice in the UK

They don't - it's a fact. Name one vocal Welsh MP.

Neil Hamilton was the lowest of the low.

If you were to include past Welsh MPs, there was David Lloyd-George
