Yes..we had a decent bit of thunder and lightning this afternoon...not as much as I would have liked but was better than nothing

Laura Kuenssberg would seem to me to be a possibility as she's ex-Newsnight as was Paxman.

A new face would be nice, instead of churning out the same old ones...and maybe someone who will do it for a fraction of the price

I think Laura would be a more appropriate choice. One of the other bookies has got Sandi Toksvig as one of the possibilities. That would not be appropriate, University Challenge is a serious programme, and isn't intended to be a comedy.

But he resigned from his role on Pointless (though not from the Celebrities one) so that he could concentrate on his writing. So it would seem unlikely unless he had already agreed at the time he stood down from Pointless.

No, he hadn't. I don't know when that photo was taken but it's not a recent one, he died in February
