@El Loro posted:Your park with the swans etc
No El, it is in part of a park a little further away
Then park where the swans are is two minutes walk from where I live. It is undergoing a ÂĢ6.5million renovation and rebuild. Itâs actually looking quite nice now

I hope your swans are happy

There was a couple of swans up there but they are only there occasionally now. I think the renovation of the large and small ponds frightened them. There was a lot of heavy machinery moving about. Hopefully they will be back and breeding when itâs quieter ð

Robert FitzRoy is the person who came up with the term weather forecast in about 1859. He was the first person to be in charge of the department now known as the Meteorological Office. If you ever hear the shipping forecast on the radio, one of the shipping areas is FitzRoy named after him.

Liked that
They're not like any recorder I've ever played...especially the big one played by the young Chinese lady...

The recorders they were playing would have been of a much higher standard (and cost) than those used in schools. Although the soprano one is the most familiar, there are larger ones so deeper such as alto, tenor and bass so rather like singing ranges.
Ranges of the modern recorder family | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
In C | Written | Sounding | In F | Written | Sounding |
garklein or sopranissimo or piccolo in C6 (câī) | sopranino in F5 (fâģ) | ||||
soprano or descant in C5 (câģ) | alto or treble in F4 (fâē) | ||||
tenor in C4 (câē) | bass or basset in F3 (f) | ||||
(great) bass or quart-bass in C3 (c) | contrabass or great bass or sub-bass in F2 (F) | ||||
sub-great bass or contra-great bass or contrabass in C2 (C) | sub-contrabass or double contrabass (octocontrabass) in F1 (FF) |
That's from the wiki article on recorders:

I remember learning about quavers, semi-quavers and crotchets etc at school...the only quaver I would recognise these days comes in a yellow packet
