Got a phone call from "British Gas" about my business electricity meter, they had technical problems and needed my meter number on my bill. It's been quite some time since I had one of those calls. Not having any business tariff means that I know the caller is a fraudster targeting small businesses (phone number withheld so I can't report it).

The caller rang off before I could have a chance of being impolite

From time to time I get callers going on about business electricity tariffs and that my British Gas contract is to be renewed. Those would be from unregulated energy consultants hoping to get a commission by selling businesses electricity contracts. There's nothing I can do about those as they aren't breaking the law as it stands, just nuisances.

Rarely I get one like today's. That's 100% attempted fraud and if the callers ever get caught they would be facing a prison sentence.

Met Office have raised the heat wave alert today. They say:
"Current watch level: Level 3 - Heatwave Action
issued at:

There is a 90 % probability of Heat-Health Alert criteria being met between 0900 on Monday and 0900 on Friday in parts of England.

There is increased confidence that temperatures will rise through the weekend, becoming widely hot, locally very hot from Monday next week. The highest confidence is for southeastern and eastern areas where temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s. There is an increased confidence for thresholds to be reached across much of the Midlands, and perhaps eastern parts of southwest England and southern parts of the northwest England and Yorkshire and Humber regions. Temperatures are likely to stay close to threshold through Wednesday, especially in for southern areas. There is then uncertainty in maximum temperatures for later in the week and over the following weekend. There is the potential for a brief dip in temperatures on Thursday and early Friday, although still feeling very warm, which may result in alert levels being reduced. This will be followed by a return to hot or very hot temperatures from late Friday 15th and into the following week. This alert will be kept under review as confidence in the forecast increases.

An update will be issued when the alert level changes in any region. Alerts are issued once a day by 0900 if required and are not subject to amendment in between standard issue times. Note that the details of the forecast weather are valid at the time of issue but may change over the period that an alert remains in force."

Hi Velvet

I used to have a client who was habitually angry and had a short fuse. He's the sort of person who if he had a dental or doctor appointment would get angry at the surgery if he had to wait more than a couple of minutes. I was always wary of him and wasn't too sorry to see him change to another accountant even though the fee was sizeable

Having to wait at appointments can be pretty annoying
