Good morning everyone

Cloudy here, rain forecast this morning. Breezy but not like yesterday. Yellow warning for wind today and I think there will be for tomorrow and Monday morning as the forecast shows gusts in the 40s for both days.

Squiggle, I'm glad that your power was restored by 10 last night

I hope everyone has a good day

Crazy weather!

I think I prefer the winters we used to have when I was a little girl.

Though there were years with winters which were disastrous:

My mother was living in London in 1947 and she did mention when the army had come to dig trenches in the snow so that people could get to work.
Then the Storm of the century in 1953.
I do remember the big freeze of 1963 when winter just went on and on and on.

As a child though the weather was a subject only the grown ups talked about we were outdoors come rain or shine.
And if I remember correctly, we always had a good summer to compensate for the nasty winters
I know that's not strictly true

63' I was a wee baby and living in Singapore ...no big freeze there
Imagine the snow being so deep as to have to call the army in for help...Did you Mother remember it as a fond memory?

I know what you mean about the summers, a post I made back in 2017:

I don't think my mother looked back at that as a fond memory

I note that the Great Movies Action is showing "Johnny Guitar" (1954) this afternoon. Unlike any other western made, the key leads being Joan Crawford (Vienna) and Mercedes McCambridge (Emma Small). They don't exactly like each other. Sterling Hayden is Johnny Guitar but his character is dwarfed by Crawford and McCambridge.

Slimfern, I had a look over Talking Picture's schedule for the coming week but didn't see anything to recommend.

Sorry El I didn't see your 'Johnny Guitar' post yesterday
I recognise Joan Crawford out of those names...for her part in 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane' with Bette Davies. I believe they weren't in love with each other either....do you think Ms Crawford was a bit picky with her friends choice
I'll see if I can find 'Johnny Guitar' somewhere online to watch

Thanks for looking for a recommendation anyways

I watched 'Bohemian Rhapsody' last night which was followed by a programme change...to 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' the 2008 remake...I much prefer the 1951 B& W version

Joan Crawford - first 3 marriages ended with divorce within 4 years (last marriage, husband died after 4 years). 5 adopted children, 2 of whom resulted in an acrimonious relationship with herm one of them wrote a tell all memoir after Crawford's death which was made into a film.
Me thinks she wasn't the easiest person to get on with.

The original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is regarded as one of the sf classics of the 50s. The 2008 remake is not regarded as a classic and I have chosen not to watch it. I suspect there aren't many people who seen both who think the remake is better.

Bet their family Christmas's were a hoot!

I've seen 'Mommy Dearest'...it's not a pleasant film and if that is what she was really like, then I'm glad she wasn't my Mother
In fact I'd struggle to have her as a friend

I haven't seen that film and not inclined to
Looking at who is in the film I noticed something of a trivia nature.
Jocelyn Brando was Marlon Brando's brother.
Steve Forrest was Dana Andrews's brother. (Steve's real name was William Forrest Andrews)
So two people with better known brothers.
(and if you were to look at the credits and notice Rutanya Alda, she's not related to Robert & Alan Alda).

It's a small world in the film industry hey

@slimfern Next Monday (28th) at 5.40 in the morning the Talking Pictures tv channel is showing a short 1939 documentary called "A Symphony of London". It's a lovely gem and a must watch. It is on Youtube as "Another Day" but I think the copy that Talking Pictures shows is less fuzzy. Worth setting up to record as it should now be available.

Good afternoon Buddies

It’s another cold and windy day here. The occasional shower too

I see the weather we are currently experiencing is call Storm Franklin

I didn’t realised it had been classified as a storm let alone named

Enjoy your day but stay safe

I think the reason why the Met Office gave it a name was because it had given an amber warning for parts of Northern Ireland and because it was very windy for coastal areas
