Billie 'The Omen' Whitelaw was a fine actress
Any reason why those episodes didn't 'exist'?

One of the main reasons why many old BBC programmes don't exist is that between 1967 and 1978 the BBC routinely deleted archive programmes, for various practical reasons (lack of space, scarcity of materials, a lack of rebroadcast rights). VHS video recorders weren't introduced until 1976 and iPlayer was yet to be. So the BBC didn't realise that there might be some interest in old programmes.

Also much of "Dixon of Dock Green" was broadcast live rather than pre-recorded on tape,
According to Wiki, there are only 32 episodes in existence, the other 400 lost.

The episode of Morecambe & Wise from 1970 which was shown on BBC last Christmas Day had been wiped out but Eric's son Gary found a copy in the attic of his mother's house.

BBC weren't alone. For instance of the first series of ITV's "The Avengers" only 3 episodes are intact, the other 23 lost.

Sounds reasonable to clear out to make room for the new... shame though.
As with the Morecombe and Wise show or indeed 'The Avengers'...many classics lost.

I wonder who got to chose what was binned...and whether they now feel guilty

Re "The Avengers", it's just the first series where episodes are missing. It started off as a sort of spin off series from a 1960 series called "Police Surgeon" in which Ian Hendry was the lead as Dr Geoffrey Brent. Ian Hendry was the lead in "The Avengers" as Dr David Keel. In the first episode his fiancÃĐe is murdered by drug smugglers and he sets out to avenge her (that's where the title of the series comes from). He is assisted by a shadowy character John Steed. Ian Hendry left at the end of the first series and Patrick Macnee continued the series as the lead.

Only the first 14 minutes of that first episode exists and John Steed isn't in it.

Re that Ian Hendry "Police Surgeon" there were only 13 episodes made and they were under half an hour long. There's a copy of the first episode on Youtube.
One of the people in that episode would become rather well known. As the person is shown in the front image of the clip, I'll post a link rather than embed it. Although the programme dates to September 1960, the person is instantly recognisable.

On the BBC website a collection of photos from the Underwater Photographer of the Year 2022 awards:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-60334402
There are 14 photos in all.
The 7th one by Katie Burrow is easily my favourite.
The 9th one is somewhat indecorous.
The 11th one by Dan Bolt amused me, particularly the title

I liked the frog group hug
Your favourite is quite haunting isn't it...pretty girl...lovely photo
And Mr & Mrs Yarrell Bleenie look like they've been caught doing something they shouldn't

Coming back from shopping I noticed a car which was so dirty that the number plate at the back was hardly visible. If the driver had been in a neighbouring county, police would have stopped the car - they've been doing that in the last week.
(ÂĢ100 on the spot fine, up to ÂĢ1,000 if stopped by the police).

Lucky escape for that person then El?

Slimfern, nothing exceptional on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week other than films I've mentioned before. There's a 1945 film called "The Great Flamarion" being shown on Tuesday morning and repeated very early on Saturday morning. It's a film noir about an unscrupulous female performer who manipulates all the men in her life in order to achieve her aims. I think it's a minor film given that the lead actress is not someone I've heard of (Mary Beth Hughes). The Great Flamarion was played by someone much better known - Erich von Stroheim. Dan Duryea is also in the film.

I'm not surprised you're watched out
I once watched the 1966/67 Russian film of "War and Peace" in 2 days. Total running time of 403 minutes per the DVD box.
And "The Hobbit" over 3 days (532 minutes film time). Both released as trilogies but can be regarded as one film.

Northern Powergrid have had to apologise foe issuing cheques for compensat6ion for incorrect amounts.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-60369098
The amount on the cheques was gigantic and wouldn't have gone through if anyone had tried to bank one.
Cheque shown is ÂĢ2,324,200,000,000.00.

(A Google search for the largest cheque was $974,790,317.77 in an American divorce settlement, the one shown above is more than 2 thousand times that)
