I note that Radio 4 is broadcasting an adaptation of "Berlin Alexanderplatz" this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon, English translation of a German novel about 1920s Berlin. Of no interest to me other than a German television film of this was made in 1980 by Werner Rainer Fassbinder who was a noted film director, not that I've ever seen any of his films. It was shown as a series on television in Germany and also on Channel 4. The whole series was made as an artistic unity and as such can be regarded as one making it an exceptionally long film (15 hours 31 minutes). The best known film of a similar unity would be Peter Jackson "Lord of the Rings" generally shown as a trilogy with a total length of 11 hours 26 minutes.

They have some good plays on radio 4...I used to listen regularly, but not for a while now.

If the author is good then visuals aren't needed to set a scene, however I like having to use my imagination to bring a story to life...it's a lot more fun

Haven't seen any of the series El...are they good?

I've just finished watchi2ng 'Young Victoria' with Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend...quite enjoyed it

"Shakespeare & Hathaway" is about a couple of private detectives who investigate crimes in Stratford-upon-Avon, gentle with a touch of humour, from the same production company as "Father Brown". The first 3 series are on BBC iplayer. For people who like "Father Brown" and  "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates".

@slimfern a potential film for you on the Talking Pictures tv channel in the next week:
Wednesday 1.00 in the morning "Man Hunt" (1941) excellent war time thriller directed by Fritz Lang starring Walter Pidgeon, Joan Bennett and George Sanders. Best adaptation of Geoffrey Household's book "Rogue Male" and a good "Hitchcockian" film. (There was a BBC television film made of "Rogue Male" back in 1976 with Peter O'Toole, also featured Alastair Sim in his final role but the Fritz Lang version is superior and more enjoyable).

Ah! copied it from the page itself

Oh well! thanks El for posting the correct one

My sentiment re the production company coughing up still stands though

I see that James Purefoy has donated ÂĢ1,000. Could well be the actor who was the lead in the film "Fisherman's Friends" which was filmed at Port Isaac

There's a 10th and final series of "Doc Martin" to be made this year.

Good for him

Watched the first series of 'Doc Martin' and found it quite humorous, but at the same time found the Doc  annoyingly rude
