Good morning everyone I vote 'me' for the weirdest weather.  I reckon its about 100% humidity out there.  The valley is filled with mist, the sea has disappeared, I can't really see anything beyond the edges of my garden maybe I have floated off to EL's parallel universe AND I have weird white spider web patches on my decking, you could say it is damp.

Anyhow, hope the weather is better where you are.  Joyron I hate hot and humid, I hope it doesn't get too bad later on in the week for you.

afternoon all I've made 3 attempts to post in here this morning and work has called me away each time! I'm now enjoying lunch So to answer your question yogi, yes I'm back at work today so far it's been busy but not hectic, which is nice It's humid here too, but probably not as bad as in the southern counties. Joyron, your funny page alignment may have been caused by a picture insert or long wide post, I've had that issue in the past
~Sparkling Summer~

Joyron, I think Summer is right, your width problem was probably caused by too wide a picture. I've worked out that it's probably Summer's picture of the vegetables which is too wide for this forum - for her and the rest of us, our browsers just scaled it down to fit, but on your browser it caused the problems. When I post a very wide picture, I edit it by clicking on the pictur, then the image icon, click on Appearance, and change the width to a maximum of 620, the height normally gets adjusted automatically.

I'm sure Summer won't mind me posting this as it's helpful to know this tip

Squiggle, I hope your mist has lifted

Here is a little misty clip to watch followed by a little true story.

Kinder Scout is in Derbyshire and is to the north of Buxton, it is the highest peak in the Lake District. My mother was born in Buxton and lived there for part of her childhood. When my parents married, they spent part of their honeymoon in Buxton. Whilst they were there, they decided to climb up Kinder Scout. During the time up the peak, they got lost and the mist came down. They got separated in the mist and couldn't find each other. They were terrified, not for themselves but for the other. Eventually each found their own way down to where they had started at the base and in due course were reunited.

Not at all El, that's very helpful, I didn't know that Joyron, I do apologise for my wide vegetables causing you discomfort, I'll be more careful in future regarding the size of pics El, that's a sweet story and quite a relief, thank goodness they found each other! I would love to do some hiking in the peak district, it's very appealing!

Those driving conditions look atrocious even in a 4 x 4.

They were married for some 55 years.

How lovely.  I wonder whether anyone from the current generation will be able to emulate that, sadly I doubt it.

I would like to think that there will be those who do. As a matter of curiousity I had a quick look at Hollywood personalities still living. I will omit those like Kirk Douglas who has been married for longer than my parents as he is obviously in the older generation, but Ron Howard has only married once and I think he is still with his wife after 36 years.

I know what you mean. With three sons and Mr Yogi, my house was very male orientated.

I saw the following text on the Appearance tab on the Edit Image icon on this forum:

Lorem ipsum, Dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing loreum ipsum edipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat.Loreum ipsum edipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat.

It's probably always been there. It seems to be some sort of Latin, but using Google translate is only partially successful:

Lorem ipsum, Dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit lorem ipsum edipiscing, s column on this page was developed for the very volutpat.Loreum edipiscing this text and the tracking and reporting of plastics used inside businesses.

Morning Ooh squiggle! *hands shopping list* I love m&s It's not very humid here, although it is mild I was looking forward to a lay in tomorrow but have agreed to drive my MIL to a hospital appointment- I can't let her get a taxi 20 miles up there & back! We quite often have a giggle together too so I don't mind. Also, I was planning a trip to my favourite craft store anyway, and it's easy to get to on the way home from the hospital.. I'm planning something a little extra special with my homemade Xmas cards this year so I need to work out the best way to do it now Hope everyone is feeling good this morning

Don't spent too much in M&S, Squiggle. I love their fresh cherries - soooooo sweet and delicious.

Has the site been playing up? I wonder what the Latin stuff was all about.

I haven't had any problems posting this morning so maybe squiggle was just unlucky. I really don't know what the Latin stuff was about. I did a Google search on the text and it seems to be on lots of forums - I was hopeless at Latin at school so I wouldn't be able to work out what it really meant.

I took Latin for one year and hated every second of it.

The first thing we learned was "amare" the verb to love - "amo, amas, amat, amamus, amatus, amant", and it's the only Latin I can remember.

That's about all I remember as well, and mensa means table and agricola means farmer (and it' s amatis rather than amatus), so agricola amat mensa means The/a farmer loves the table. I'm not sure that is particularly helpful to know but you never know.

In my school we had to have Latin for the first 2 years and I was hopeless at it. We were taught by the man who had taught our headmaster when he was at school. The headmaster had given him a job as a favour as he must have been well past retirement age. He was very very old public (AKA private) school. Whilst I was at school I got my 2 detentions from him, given to me because I was useless at Latin rather than anything else. I'm glad that caning could only be authorised by the headmaster as I think he would have caned me.

When I was in the first year at grammar school we lived in town near the park. One Sunday I and my brother were walking back home from Sunday school throught the park. We found a flower bed where there were a lot of broken flowers just lying there. So we decided to pick them up to take home to put in a vase. As we were picking them up the park keeper saw us and came over saying that he was going to report us to the headmaster who he knew. So we went home and told our parents what had happened. Our parents then wrote a letter to the headmaster explaining what had happened. Nothing ever came of this, I think the headmaster wrote back to my parents thanking them for their letter.

I was in the fourth year at the school and one lunchtime I was walking outside when two other boys joined me on either side of me. I had known both for years as I was in the same infants and junior school. One of them K I had been fairly friendly with at junior school. The other C who was in the same class as me was a really nasty piece of work. Anyway we were just walking along when they saw the old Latin master and suddenly they cheeked him, I can't remember what they said. I didn't say anything but we then scarpered.

In the afternoon I was summonsed to the headmaster's office. When I got there, the Latin master was there as well. I gave my version of what had happened. Although the Latin master was clearly a bit disbelieving, the headmaster accepted what I had said. The other two boys got a caning, I think. But I'm fairly certain that the headmaster had remembered about the flowers incident and accepted that I was inherently honest.

K eventually joined the police force - I still know his mother. C became the headmaster of a smallish public/private school, and I hope that he had become a nicer person than he was. (I use public/private as although they are the same thing, we tend to use public in England and Wales, but that is not used in Scotland).

El Loro

I'm back and I stuck strictly to my budget.  I too love the cherries from there Yogi but I am having nectarines delivered tomorrow and if I eat too much fruit with skins on it can play havoc with my innards so I have to be quite careful.

Its ever so humid out but it feels quite pleasant sitting here, I think the wind is getting up a bit which will help blow all the clouds away.  I hate it when all your clothes stick to you which they did this morning, I was glad to get home and change into a kaftan.

squiggle

"and it' s amatis rather than amatus"

I told you I was rubbish at Latin.

Actually, that was a typo.

No wonder you weren't very keen on your Latin master.

My Latin teacher was really useless. He couldn't keep control of the class (and my class were the top set and generally well behaved for the other teachers).

Although he probably knew his subject well, he just wasn't a very good teacher - if you know what I mean.

Me too, Squiggle. M&S cherries are one of the few fruits I can still eat without any problems.

This sticky weather is horrible, I bet you are nice and cool in your kaftan.
