I saw "Contact" at the cinema when it came out. It's based on a novel by Carl Sagan and is about the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. It's one of the most intelligent serious science fiction films made. It's very good but don't expect any action scenes, alien monsters, cute aliens or humour.

Great cast and good storyline...I liked that there were no gruesome beasties nor bloody battles between planets.
The CRT screens were a dead giveaway that it wasn't a new film

For Slimfern, best film on the Talking Pictures TV channel in the next week which I haven't mentioned before is:
Friday 18.00 "The Stranger" (1948) directed by Orson Welles with him and Edward G Robinson in the cast. Good film noir with Robinson looking for a war criminal. Worth watching.

Nasa’s Curiosity Mars rover has captured a stunning panorama of the Red Planet using its onboard navigation cameras, prompting the mission team to create a rare postcard of the Martian landscape.


By combining two black and white images taken at different times of the day, the team added blue, orange and green colour in order to develop an artistic interpretation of the mountainous scene.

That's because the artist has added blue and a haze to make it look as if there's an atmosphere similar to here on Earth. The atmosphere on Earth is over 100 times as dense as that on Mars

Heatwave here in comparison 1.6° at present, a high of 4° forecast for the daytime and a night time high of 8°

No tax involved, the person who has done the accounts is different from the person who used to them but has retired.

Not quite though that ice had come from the Antarctic but was only from the last 2 to 3 hundred years
