El, sorry to hear about your team’s result

We managed to hold onto a 3-0 but sadly there was two medical emergencies in the crowd

Mentioned on the radio news this morning, a Shelley's Eagle Owl has been seen for the first time in African rainforests for 150 years. A photo of it was taken.

Good morning everyone

Some sunshine here at present but rain is on the way.

Moonie. I'm glad your team had a good win.
Disappointing for Cheltenham though Doncaster has a good track record against them.

I hope everyone has a good day

"Heaven Can Wait" was directed by Ernst Lubitsch, famed for his sophisticated comedies in the 1930s and 40s. You will have heard of Greta Garbo even if you've never seen any of her films. The most watchable of them is "Ninotchka" (1939) which was directed by Lubitsch.

Don't confuse "Heaven Can Wait" with another Gene Tierney film "Leave Her to Heaven" (1945). That's another film noir, supposedly good but I've never seen it so can't comment on it.

."The Ghost and Mrs Muir" is wonderful.

"Leave Her to Heaven" is on the Talking Pictures channel this evening. A very different side to Gene Tierney compared to "The Ghost and Mrs Muir".

I just discovered that the second person that was taken ill at the Baggies game yesterday was a Robins fan and not as I said previously, a Baggies fan…

A Robins fan in this case of Bristol City, rather than a Robins fan of Cheltenham

I'm going to watch this one...

I'm recording it as well as I don't remember having seen it

"Call Northside 777" (1948) is on Talking Pictures on Tuesday afternoon. A good serious film about a newspaper journalist (James Stewart) looing into a murder case conviction 11 years before. Based on a true story. On a point of trivia, there's a scene where a lie detector is used and the man seen using it was the man who invented it.

I've seen 'Call Northside 777' before El ...I like James Stewart....I'll record it and add it to my library of films, which is growing by the day almost
Didn't know the point of trivia though

Don't want to spoil it for you but Gene Tierney isn't very nice

Thanks - I haven't seen it yet. I was aware that he character wasn't nice, hence my comment about another side to Gene Tierney

You weren't wrong

Must admit...she was just as beautiful in colour as she was in black and white

Old Lithuanian song (audio only)

Stravinsky used the music as a base for his bassoon solo in "The Rite of Spring":

Couldn't understand a word she sang, but she has a lovely voice, very atmospheric music
The bassoon doesn't sing it as well as she did ...nicely done though ...Thanks El

Same here

Did find this on wiki though.. Lithuanians belong to the ethno-linguistic group of the Balts and speak Lithuanian, one of only a few living Baltic languages.

There's the Kartvelian languages, the most common being Georgian which uses an alphabet which is rather different:

The best known person who can speak Georgian (though I don't know if she can write in it) is Katie Melua who is Georgian:

I've just watched it. As you say Gene Tierney was not very nice.
I didn't particularly enjoy the film as it was closer to an American television soap opera. I was wondering if Joan Collins in Dynasty got the idea of those shoulder pads from Gene Tierney in this film.
Vincent Price was good as the attorney in the courtroom scene.

My Firefly

My firefly,
You fly slowly-slowly,
Your distant lighting
Burnt and weakened me,
Your distant lighting
Burnt and weakened me.
You are shining and you are fine,
But you are useless for me,
I want you to be mine,
You run away to fly to others,
I want you to be mine,
You run away to fly to others.

The top one looks pretty doesn't it
In English ...the words are lovely....very poetic

I learnt a bit of Bulgarian whilst spending a bit of time there....they use the Cyrillic alphabet...reminds me of hieroglyphics.

Named after Saint Cyril who worked with his brother Saint Methodius (I haven't made that up )
