It was discovered in 1999 so any finders fee would have been paid back then

There are those who think it's genuine and some who don't. Old BBC article about this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6722953.stm

Police in the Swiss city of Basel arrested the treasure hunters in a sting, and they were eventually convicted.

Got their bills paid for a time ...guess that's some sort of finders fee

I note that Talking Pictures are showing "The Happiest Days of your Life" (1950) this evening. British comedy set in a school. Stars Alastair Sim and Margaret Rutherford, also Joyce Grenfell. A forerunner of the St Trinian's films and better than any of them as based on a play rather than the Ronald Searle drawings though he did create the opening titles,

An absolute classic film El
Sim & Rutherford were a match made in heaven for comedy
Definitely on the agenda for this evening

I remember that one...Sim did a great job at being a woman

George Cole was good in those films too...the start of his career as a genial rogue

Talking Pictures sometimes shows the 1941 film "Cottage to Let". It's a spy thtiller and in the cast are Alastair Sim and George Cole in his debut. George was 16 at the time and Alastair and his wife took in George and his adoptive mother and they became almost part of the family. Alastair mentored George in his career for many years which is why George was in quite a number of his films. George is very watchable in "Cottage to Let" and he and Alistair Sim make the film worth watching.

Good morning everyone

Heavy rain band here has moved away now, there's a bit of sunshine but the forecast is for showers today. The thunderstorm warning covers here as well this morning but that risk may have related to the heavy rain band.

Thanks Moonie re Cheltenham's win, they are now in 12th place . They are away to the bottom club Doncaster on Saturday.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning Buddies

We have rain, sunshine and a stiff breeze so far today. I have to say, it isn’t that cold though

Glad to see Cheltenham are on the up and up El

We have Swansea away tonight. That won’t be a walk in the park

Oh, I see Steve Bruce has finally left Newcastle “by mutual consent”

Enjoy your day everyone

The Royal Mint is to extract gold from electronic waste such as old phones and laptops:

There has been companies doing this for years....our centre used to be a drop off point for old technology, which we would then pass on to either go to third world countries after being revamped or to be stripped for their precious metals and be recycled ethically.
It is a crazy world that we live in where a person needs a new phone/computer every time an updated version is brought out
Not me I hasten to add

One of the episodes of MacGyver (the reboot) was based on old technology being sent to a third world country (Ghana) to be recycled ethically but the team found that crooks had taken over.

I know what you mean about having to replace computers etc when an updated operating system comes out. The new Windows 11 can't be installed on many older computers. If a computer is over 5 years old then it's unlikely one can install Windows 11 (and not necessarily newer ones).

Yes it is one of the risks unfortunately

I wonder whether companies should be allowed to make technology that insists on new purchases in this day and age, I mean I'm pretty sure it is only to make money and not because they are forced to.

I agree but in my case I will need to replace my computer once the current microprocessor chip shortages ease. In February the hard drive failed and had to be replaced, the graphics board failed in July and had to be replaced. So it's a matter of time as to when the motherboard and CPU fail. It's an old computer which I bought in March 2014.

In your case you have no choice. I understand that certain parts have a life span.
I'm more talking of when they change up the windows and stop supporting previous versions.
My last computer was on windows 7, which I was comfortable with, I upgraded to 10 for free when it first came out but didn't get on with it at all, so I restored back to 7....18mths or so later they stopped updates for 7.
Am now used to 10

Where support ends on 14 October 2025 so just under 4 years time.....
