There's a couple of Gene Tierney (Laura) films worth watching when they get shown again,
"Heaven Can Wait" (1943) a fantasy comedy romance film
and "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" (1947) also a fantasy romance film
Very different films and amongst the best Hollywood fantasies of the 1940s

Will take a look....can easily rent on you tube
I like a good comedy/fantasy romance

"Heaven Can Wait" was directed by Ernst Lubitsch, famed for his sophisticated comedies in the 1930s and 40s. You will have heard of Greta Garbo even if you've never seen any of her films. The most watchable of them is "Ninotchka" (1939) which was directed by Lubitsch.

Don't confuse "Heaven Can Wait" with another Gene Tierney film "Leave Her to Heaven" (1945). That's another film noir, supposedly good but I've never seen it so can't comment on it.

."The Ghost and Mrs Muir" is wonderful.

I may watch them all El

I do know of Greta Garbo and have probably seen her before ...a bit of a stunner in her day

Black and white has this way of making women look beautiful don't you think

Other fantasy films from that era which you probably haven't seen are:
"The Devil and Daniel Webster" (1941) AKA "All that Money Can Buy", "Daniel and the Devil" and there have been others those those are the most common. It's set in 1840s rural New Hampshire and it tries to emulate what that would have been like. Notable for Walter Huston's performance as Mr Scratch (the Devil) and Edward Arnold as Daniel Webster. It's quite a slow moving film, James Craig as the farmer and a major character is frankly wooden in the part, so one needs to be patient with the film to appreciate it and it ultimately pays off.

Jean Cocteau's "La Belle et Le BÊte" (1946) in French with subtitles. I don't know if that's on Youtube as ones I've found are either in other languages or with a music score replacing the words. Highly artistic and a wonderful film. It's Beauty and the Beast but nothing like Disney,

I sat and watched Beauty and the beast with French subs with my brother, who is fluent and I can get by decently...but was many years ago. Not at all a Disney
Will take a look at those you have mentioned a little later....have just finished dinner and my belly has taken over my brain

Apparently  Alfred Newman had George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in mind when he wrote that theme for "Street Scene"
Short 2 minute version of Rhapsody (full version is around 18 minutes long)

Good morning Buddies

Windy, cold and mostly wet

A forecast high of just 12°

I see you are at home to Exeter City in the EFL Cup tonight El. Good luck

Have a great day everyone

Thanks  - It's actually the EFL Trophy which is a step down from the EFL Cup (which covers the top English leagues). Cheltenham were knocked out of the Cup by Preston North End last month,

BBC article about a sculpture. Although the sculpture isn't particularly interesting, the source of the material is very unusual:

That's amazing really El....to dig down and produce ice from years ago, then display it to thaw. I'm not sure that I would want to taste it though tbh
I didn't quite get the 'air' display, it looked like air bubbles but how? confused by that one

With the air display one there's a column made of glass in the middle of which is a void in which liquid silicone has been put, then 256 year old Antarctic air has been injected, The air is in the form of bubbles and as the whole lot is encased in glass, the bubbles can't go anywhere. That way, the air can be seen from the outside. I think that's the idea, though I don't know how this was achieved

Ice can also hold some dissolved air....

I googled

Sorry El...but we will be flying the flag for Exeter tonight ....being as my Dad was born, bred and buttered here and played for the under 16's many many years ago...he even sat on the board for a time. He'll be watching tonight.
Good luck anyways

Today's dinosaur news, the chief dragon from Wales named Pendraig milnerae:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/sci...environment-58806682
Those familiar with the legend of King Arthur will know that he was also referred to as Pendragon = chief dragon or warrior.
The second part of the name is in tribute to the late Angela Milner who was influential in British dinosaur science.

Just seen this reported on the news El
Dinosaur meat eating chickens...free range I would imagine
The chap interviewed said there were many more fossils that the museum has that have yet to be researched and named

Merlin fan here didn't know Pendragon meant that ....makes sense though

MIL lives in a village where they did a lot of filming for Midsummer Murders...very quintessentially old English
Loved to watch that show when John Nettles was boss man....it didn't quite have the appeal when he left.

Another discovery...cute little thing

I watch MM but as with you it doesn't seem to have the same appeal as it used to. I wonder if your ML has even been seen as one of the extras in any of the episodes.

As you say, rather cute and does look similar to a sea horse
