Good morning Buddies

Cold, wet and windy here. It looks set for most of the day too. We are set to reach the dizzy heights of 13°

We managed to lose out unbeaten run to Stoke last night El. I could see it coming after all the goals we scored last week

Let’s hope it’s just a glitch

I hope your team has better luck today

Have a lovely day everyone

I see that the Talking Pictures channel is showing "Laura" (1944) this afternoon (often shown) and "Born to Kill/Lady of Deceit" (1947) (known under either title) this evening,
Both in the film noir genre, "Laura" is a classic and worth watching if you haven't seen it before. One of the cast is played by Gene Tierney.
"Born to Kill/Lady of Deceit" is the most "hard as nails" film made in the 1940s. Directed by Robert Wise and couldn't be more different than his "Sound of Music". A minor cult film but a nasty film. One of the cast is played by Lawrence Tierney.
Gene Tierney and Lawrence Tierney were not related.

"Laura" has Dana Andrews as the detective in charge of finding who murdered Laura (that's not a spoiler as that's how the film starts), Clifton Webb and Vincent Price (probably his best film). Gene Tierney played Laura in flashback scenes.

Vincent Price....I like his acting
I'm going to watch it tomorrow...it's too late now and I'm shattered ...Good night.

Good morning everyone

Mixed weather here today, some dry periods and some wet - looks as if tonight could be raining heavily.

Taking my car in for annual service and MOT today.

Watched another old film noir - "I Wake Up Screaming" (1941) (20th Century Fox first noir film). Cast included Betty Grable (her only noir film and no singing or dancing), Victor Mature, Laird Cregar, Elisha Cook Jnr, and Carole Landis.
Rather derivative music score by Cyril J Mockridge, the most obvious being the repeated use of the famous melody from "Over the Rainbow".

I hope everyone has a good day

I've watched Laura and enjoyed it.
I never knew Vincent Price could look so young , but what a smarmy gold digger!
The conversation between Laura and her aunt in the bedroom re Shelby was my favourite scene....Ann was brutally honest.
Definitely worth the watch....Thanks!

Should I give 'Born to kill/Lady of deceit' a miss if it's nasty?

What about 'I wake up screaming'......will I have nightmares?

I'm glad you enjoyed "Laura". Ann, the aunt, was played by Judith Anderson was a good actress and did a lot of stage work. By the way, she was Mrs Danvers in Hitchcock's "Rebecca".
It's very early in Vincent Price's film career, he was 33 at the time. He had been in films for a few years but it was "Laura" which made him better known.

"Born to kill/Lady of deceit" has its fans but I found its callousness quite disturbing given that it was made in 1947. Incidentally, Lawrence Tierney was in a much more recent film - Reservoir Dogs. Never seen it and never will. Obviously BTK/LOD isn't remotely as violent as RD but it wouldn't surprise me if people who liked one of those films would like the other.

"I Wake Up Screaming" is unlikely to give you nightmares. Quite watchable, just don't expect it to be as good as "Laura" and the acting is average rather than outstanding,

Elisha Cook Jr. was in both BTK/LOD and IWUS, though he was in a lot of films, a character actor, not a lead actor. From IWUS:

Yes I thought I recognised her.

I haven't seen Reservoir dogs neither and have no desire to...way too violent for me. I only just made it through Pulp fiction (which I wouldn't watch again)...only watched it the first time because I like John Travolta (teenage crush)
I might give IWUS a miss if you don't mind, I'm sure you have other, better films to recommend

There's a couple of Gene Tierney (Laura) films worth watching when they get shown again,
"Heaven Can Wait" (1943) a fantasy comedy romance film
and "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" (1947) also a fantasy romance film
Very different films and amongst the best Hollywood fantasies of the 1940s
