Nighty night, sleep well, sweet dreams Rosss, Yogi and Buddies
night yogi moonsieee EL
Good morning everyone it should be a rainy morning followed by a cloudy afternoon.
Enjoy your day everyone
Good morning everyone
Very cloudy here, may get rain later. Cool enough for my central heating to come on for a short time first thing.
Summer solstice in the UK today - that's the day with the longest period of daylight, supposedly
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone
Its a cold, breezy but dry start too the day here. The forecast is for cloudy changing to light rain by early evening. A high of 17 degrees
El, I can see me having my heating on before long too
My nephew used to go to the summer and winter solstices every year. I donât know if he still does though
Have a lovely day everyone
Moonie, there were people who went to Stonehenge this morning even though they had been told not to.
English Heritage had intended to have a live feed of the sunrise there but decided to pull it for safety reasons.

Caitriona Lagan was 14 at the time when she made the above.
There's a BBC clip about her:

I agree
In order of appearance: banjo, mandolin, guitar, mandola and violin,
The mandola is the larger and deeper version of the mandolin.

As always, a mind of useful information El
I wouldnât have know the difference between a mandala and a mandolin but for your information El

I had to check that out as the two could easily be confused The equivalent of a mandola and a mandolin is the viola and the violin

Watched the last part of "Discovering Sci Fi in films" on the Sky Arts channel last week. 3 film critics having a count down of their top 25 sci films from the last 100 years.
As tends to be the case with film documentaries on Sky Arts I found it too superficial for me but would be of greater appeal to casual film watchers.
If you want to see a list of the 25 films included:
https://www.3ddproductions.com...ering-sci-fi-on-film
They are listed in order as shown so their number film is the last on the list. There is a typo in the list as one of the films wrongly starts with "22 ".
Films are generally the original rather then any remake.
For instance Solaris is the Russian original rather than the George Clooney remake.
I have seem most of the films. I don't agree with their choice of the best film.
The oldest film on the list is "Metropolis" (1927). That does deserve its place in the list.
The next oldest film is "Things to Come" (1936). I'm probably the only one here to have seen that, It's based on H G Wells novel "The Shape of Things to Come" and was the first major British science fiction film. Saw it on television years ago and found it very creaky.

Good morning everyone it's forecast to be a dry day with sunny intervals and a gentle breeze. We still haven't had a drop of rain and none seem to be forecast.
Enjoy your day everyone
Good morning everyone
A bit of sunshine here and a little bit warmer today. Central heating still came on first thing.
Slimfern, Alien is one of the many famous films that I've never seen
I hope everyone has a good day
Part of Handel's The Harmonious Blacksmith" played on a harpsichord.
The harpsichord predates the piano. The main difference is that with the harpsichord the strings are plucked but with a piano they are hit with what are called hammers.
At the senior school I went to there was a harpsichord. I seem to remember that it was built for the school by one of the teachers as a project. I doubt if many schools have a harpsichord.
When I was at that school, many years ago, the school celebrated it's 300th year. It's a state school and was founded all those years ago to educate local poor boys.
As part of the celebrations, there was an open day with various exhibitions largely done by the senior boys and the teachers including a science display.
There were also outdoor exhibitions. Easily the most memorable of those was a small but working hovercraft. Not sure if it could have much put on it though it could lift of the ground by a foot. Too dangerous to be attempted now due to health & safety reasons. It was powered, probably by something like a motor bike engine. I accidentally touched it with a hand and quickly moved it away as it was very hot. I wasn't burned.
Good afternoon everyone
Cold, windy but dry day so far. A high of 18 degrees expected
A happy Tuesday to you all

Another very old musical instrument which you might have hear of is the hurdy-gurdy. Here's a couple of Youtube clips. The first shows it in use. The second one is a detailed discussion about the instrument, its history and how it works. Quite interesting, one of the comments on Youtube is "This is a wordy nerdy hurdy gurdy video"

BBC article today about the new ÂĢ50 note coming into circulation today:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57554102
Article also says that the old paper ÂĢ50 note will no longer be accepted in shops from October next year.
As will the old paper ÂĢ20 note which people are more likely to have.
@Moonie posted:Glad I donât have any 50âs or old 20âs then El
Not surprisingly, I don't have any ÂĢ50 notes.
I do have an old ÂĢ20 note though. I had forgotten about it as it's been a long time since I have used any cash at all

I see that Lloyds Bank are closing more branches. I've alerted one of my clients who will be affected by this. They won't be happy The main branch is further away but has the same bank sort code. Or they'll change banks - there's a Nat West branch near by but then that could also close as there's also a main branch.

Not good for those who need to be able to get to banks.
