Re that census letter. Nothing in the post today. While I was talking with my brother on the phone on Saturday morning I noticed the postman. He seemed to be going to every house. When he came here all I got was a credit card statement,

So this afternoon I rang someone who lives in the same road. They got their letter on Saturday morning. So that's why the postman was going to every house. Obviously my letter has been lost.

So I went ahead and got a replacement code through the census site and went through all the questions though haven't sent it off yet.

A four bedroomed terrace house in Bristol has been sold.

It is quite possibly the only terraced house in the country to have a church organ built in. Joan Baker was a church organist and her husband Ronald built the organ so that she could practice at home. Whilst she played the organ, her husband would accompany her on the trumpet.

Not them:

There's 3 sections, the 2nd slow section is beautiful

Evening gents

Good job you chased up the census form, El

In Scotland, I think ours isnā€™t being done till 2022

Have you been back to the park at the weekend, Moonie?

Hi Yogi

Sorry I missed you

I was on the phone

I have been up the park 3 times out the last four days. All is okay up there

The two swans and the nearly grown cygnet are all doing well as is all the wildlife

Its nice to see you around again

I did get that census letter today. My elderly neighbour hasn't. I thought it unlikely that she would have online access so I asked her if she wanted me to request a paper form for her. I've done that. Quicker for me to request it online rather than for her to have to ring them.

Lovely that you care so much as to help your elderly neighbour El

Good morning everyone

Similar weather here as yesterday with some sunshine at present. Wild weather coming with tomorrow night being very windy.

Some of the meteorite fragments found on a driveway in Winchcombe.

I hope everyone has a good day

Hi El and Moons

Loved the meteorite story - lucky though, could have caused some damage. Who claims ownership there I wonder, suppose it's the landowner?  Wouldn't mind that 300g lump      Heard the guy on the radio being the first to see it last night outside the finder - it was good stuff.

Hope all are well as always. Nice to see the park back up and running Moons

Hi Velvet

As you say, the meteorite fragments could have caused some damage. The area where fragments might have fallen was a bot over 30 square miles. The majority of the area is countryside/farmland. Winchcombe is one of the larger towns with a population of just over 5,000. (I've excluded Cheltenham as, although a lot larger, was right on the edge of the area so was less likely). The landowner has donated the fragments to science. The BBC article mentions that other people have found fragments. There's a photo there of another bit found in Woodmancote. That's a small village between Cheltenham and Winchcombe and not far from Cleeve Hill. Cleeve Hill is the highest point in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds. There are no places higher than there in an easterly direction to the sea but, because Cleeve Common to the east is so flat it's impossible to see that far to the east.

You live in some area El flooding aside

Gloucestershire does have some very attractive places such as the Cotswolds (which do extend into Oxfordshire and some other counties). Gloucester itself has the main advantage of having relatively cheap houses. My house would be 50% more expensive if it was in Cheltenham

I've always said house beats location but I'm surprised at that

As long as you're handy

The house price differential has been like that for as long as I can remember, Gloucester and Cheltenham are not that far apart in distance. I do my main M&S weekly shop at the food store on the outskirts of Cheltenham (the ship in the centre of Gloucester is a small part of the shop, the aisles are close together and the range is smaller). The Cheltenham one has an adjoining car park, the Gloucester one doesn't. There's another store in the centre of Cheltenham which I have been to but not for the best part of a year. Time from leaving home to getting home for the one on the outskirts of Cheltenham (which is under 5 miles geographically from Gloucester city boundary) is under an hour. I very much doubt if going to the Gloucester one would be quicker.

I'd do the same. Safety first

I'm online with Asda - easy to navigate and no probs so far (touch wood! ).

I know Cleeve Hill generally from the Cheltenham Festival - always referenced - but I've been out of National Hunt for a while. Gordon Elliot didn't help.

Yes, Cleeve Hill and Cleeve Common are less than 2 miles from the race course so are noticeable. Never been to a racecourse to see horse racing and don't watch it on television.

Been to Cleeve Hill. Also the other hill near Cheltenham - Leckhampton Hill. Cleeve Hill is higher but Leckhampton Hill is more interesting as it's got a disused quarry where the rock formation known as Devil's Chimney is. Used to be a path halfway up the side of the quarry towards the chimney. Many years ago we walked along that path but couldn't go any further as the path had erodes. So rather than walk all the way back we decided to scramble down the side towards the bottom. My mother was ahead. I was following when she suddenly told me to stop. I was just about to go into a nest of adders/vipers

Evening all

Heavy rain atm.

Really pleased youā€™ve been able to visit the park to see the swans, Moonie

El, that was kind of you (Iā€™d expect no less) to help out your elderly neighbour with the census form

Hope all is well with you, Velvet, and glad youā€™ve been able to get shopping delivered.

Hi and bye Yogi

Fankoo, I was up again today and there was a huge nest on the island. You could just about see a swan above the top of it

So hopefully some new cygnets soon

Moonie

Good morning everyone it's a wet and very windy morning with warnings in place for today and tomorrow.

I won a day at the races once in a radio phone in with Michael Aspel hosting in the early days of Capital Radio. It was at Lingfield and we were in the VIP marquee, very interesting to see the horses and jockeys up close. Our poor little car parked amongst all the Rolls Royces! Disappointingly the only people we recognised were Showaddywaddy you couldn't miss their colourful drape jackets.

Enjoy your day everyone
