@Moonie thanks

My computer people rang me to say that they've been able to install Windows 10 on my computer. So I've been to collect it. I asked them some questions, they realised that they hadn't installed their a/v s/w so there was a delay whilst they did that.

So I've set the computer up. I've got a lot of things to reinstall which will keep me occupied

Well done El

I shall have tea and biscuits ready later

It's a slow and frustrating process.

First I tried to install the payroll software I use for a client. Won't let me saying Microsoft net framework 3.5 is required. Windows 10 seems to include the newer version 4.8. Sent email to the payroll software company about this and am waiting for a response,

Then I decided to install the tax/accounts software. No problem in doing that other than it didn't link in with the client data on my external drive. I have sorted that out after a phone call to the software people though it took time.

Taken all afternoon to do that. As I said, this would take longer. Just as well that this is the quiet time for client work though I do need to get the payroll s/w sorted out ASAP.

Some good news and some not so good news there El. Iā€™m sure you will win in the end though

Itā€™s very chilly up here.

I like the idea of Cyril marauding šŸ˜‚

No sign of the blackbirds today. Hopefully, theyā€™ll be back tomorrow.

Cyril is a brave lad

Iā€™m sure the blackbird will be back. I find it lifts the spirits to have wild creatures trust you....even if itā€™s only because you are feeding them šŸ˜‚

Good morning everyone

Raining here and a poor forecast throughout today and tomorrow though no warnings in place. More rain on Sunday then it seems as if the weather becomes more settled.

Moonie, I hope your migraine last evening has gone this morning

It was quite useful using that notebook for a period of time as it runs Windows 10 so the updates I did on that were the same as the ones I did on the computer yesterday. Also meant that I was able to look at Windows 10 before having that installed on the computer.

Re the payroll installation problem. I have already agreed with the client to do a nil notification to HMRC for February. The deadline for that is 19 March so I've got a month in which to get it sorted. So less of a problem than if I was running a payroll for the month which needed to be done by the end of this month. Client is the director of a company and there are no other employees. I've told him ages ago that if he did the payroll himself that he would be able to use much cheaper payroll software so save money. Those payroll s/w are for employers, I can only use s/w for agents. HMRC do not approve of agents logging in as their clients so I can't get around it that way. Some agents were logging in as a client to claim the SEISS grants for the self-employed - result was that the claim didn't succeed and the agents had to spend time trying to sort out the mess they (the agent) had created.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone

Iā€™m feeling much better this morning fankoo

Itā€™s cold, wet and windy here. The forecast is for light showers changing to overcast in the afternoon. A high of 10 degrees

No weather warnings, though I did notice we may get gusts of wind up to 39mph

El, good to see you have mostly sorted your computer problems out

Have a good day everyone but stay safe and warm

Moonie

Moonie, I'm glad you are feeling much better today

A little bit of progress re the payroll software in that I've been able to install it once I worked out that I needed to amend one of the Windows Features.

However I have not yet been able to restore the back up file. So another email sent to the payroll people (who hadn't come back to me regarding yesterday's email).

I won't go into the technical details as this involves Microsoft SQL server which is something which only computer tech people get involved with.

The payroll software people could be criticised for developing payroll software which the installation process is too complex for anyone other than tech people.

Your getting there El. Slowly but surely

When I have had trouble with my computers in the past, I have a guy who does the repairs, software installations and sorts any problems I have, out

I am technically inept except for the simplest of things

Microsoft SQL server is an area I have little knowledge of It's for computer IT people. So a large business would probably have their own computer IT person/people, a small business wouldn't.
