Moonie, when we moved to our new house my parents spent the first few weeks decorating during the evenings. I and Penny, our dog, spent the evenings watching television. One of the programmes I watched was "Man in a Suitcase". It wasn't a series that stuck in my mind and I only saw some of the episodes. More memorable were the episodes of "The Saint" that I saw during that time. I also saw episodes of "The Baron" though those must have been repeats as they were originally broadcast before we moved. "The Baron" starred Steve Forrest who was the brother of Dana Andrews. It also starred Sue Lloyd.

There's a very strong connection between:
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (best known for his "Song of Hiawatha"),
Dorothy L Sayers (best known for her Lord Peter Wimsey books,
and Clive James, the late Australian critic, broadcaster and writer.

They all translated and published English versions of Dante Aligheiri's epic "Divine Comedy", the first part of which is Dante's Inferno.

Apparently, lots of people who watched last night's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" thought that the Β£8,000 question for the first contestant was too hard to be an Β£8,000 question.

The question was β€œWilliam Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti were principal founders of which art movement?” and the 4 possible answers "Surrealism, Post-Impressionism, Pre-Raphaelite and Dadaism."

Contestant didn't know so used a "Phone a Friend" who didn't know. So he then used "Ask the Host", Jeremy Clarkson admitted he didn't have a clue.

So the contestant used the 50/50 to get rid of two incorrect answers. He then guessed at one of the two remaining answers and chose the wrong one.

And there's me knowing what the answer was as soon as the artists names were mentioned before the possible answers were shown.

(there was a BBC drama series back in 2009 called "Desperate Romantics", Rafe Spall was William Holman Hunt, Samuel Barnett was John Everett Millais and Aidan Turner was Dante Gabriel Rossetti)

I have heard of the first three but not β€œDadaism”

Moonie

Evening all It has rained all day.

I had a good sleep last night, I didn’t wake till 6.30am.

El, I remember watching The Man From Uncle

Moonie, I like that we are continuing to learn something new- often in this thread.

MrY was bored today and when he is bored he likes to annoy me. Do you remember the puppet Orville the duck?
MrY kept singing (in a high pitched voice!) β€œI wish I could fly right up to the sky but I can’t”....over and over again.
He was so close to being throttled.

Hi and bye Yogi

I’m so pleased you you slept better last night. I hope you do tonight too

It really is

I do remember it. A really annoying song

I’m glad you didn’t do him bodily harm

Moonie

Good morning everyone

Dry at present here, rain forecast to start this evening and may not end until early Thursday morning, windy particularly tomorrow. Yellow warning in place rather than the amber warning.

Yogi, I saw Orville the duck on the Christmas 2013 Pointless Celebrities episode

I hope everyone has a good day
