If you are very lucky you might be able to see the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on Monday evening. Best time will be just after sunset and it would be in the south-west just above the horizon. Look for a thin crescent moon and two bright objects next to it, Jupiter easier to see than Saturn. Some are calling this the Christmas star.

It's a rare event. There was a conjunction in 2000 but the position in the sky made it difficult to see. The last time there was such a close conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn was on 4 March 1226.

Best view would be for those near the equator so there's likely to be photos of the conjunction on the media for those who don't get to see it here.

The other night I happened to come across on the red button on my television a programme by Radio 1 of songs which had been used in films associated with Christmas. Extremely variable, some watchable, some not. It included Bill Nighy in "Christmas is all around" taken from "Love Actually" - never seen that film, but I found that Bill Nighy song revoltingly sleazy.

The most memorable song was Pentatonix's version of the old carol "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". Apparently it was used in the 2018 version of "The Grinch" Pentatonix is an American a cappela group. Here's their officia video:

The man in the middle is Mitch Grassi whose voice is a tenor and at times close to what is called a counter tenor - that's the highest natural male voice rather than a falsetto.

El, Bill Night’s character in Love Actually was a  badly behaved ageing rock/pop star, hence the sleazy song.

I was talking to my brother on the phone and had to end the call urgently. There was a large van parked outside my neighbours house. I saw a black cat climbing up the underneath of the van. The workmen seemed to be in the process of putting their things away. I dashed out to tell one of the workmen. He looked under the van and the cat sped away. A minute later they drove off.
