Moonie, I'm glad there are no hounds at the bottom of your garden

I agree with you re that version. I haven't seen a better one. The fact that it's made in black and white rather than in colour is a plus as it adds to the atmosphere on the moor.

Me too El

Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are what to me will always be Holmes and Watson

I happened to see the end of an old Pointless episode one evening this week. It was one of the celebrity versions and had Shaun Williamson in, known for being exceptional at quizzes. As one would expect when he's playing they got the jackpot at the end. It was a Sherlock Holmes round with 3 related questions. They got the pointless answer with Joe Egan having been in the Robert Downey Jr version of Sherlock Holmes. One of the other categories was to name a pointless Besil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes film. Williamson had thought of an answer but wasn't sure he was correct and it wasn;t. He said "Sherlock Holmes Goes to Washington" and it should have been "Sherlock Holmes in Washington" which would have been a pointless answer.

In the morning I had been thinking of some of the old classic American comedy films. I was thinking of some of Frank Capra's films. "It happened on Night" (1934), "Mr Deeds Goes to Town" (1936) and "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" (1939).

It's probable that Williamson had "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" when the said "Sherlock Holmes Goes to Washington". "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" is the one with James Stewart who somehows gets appointed to a vacancy in the US Senate. It's a serious political comedy and very very good. The filibuster scene is one of the great scenes in films.

The official trailer for the 1950 western "Winchester 73":

James Stewart, Shelley Winters, Dan Duryea and Stephen McNally are those mentioned.
What it doesn't mention is that the film also featured early roles for Rock Hudson and Anthony Curtis. This was the last film Anthony Curtis made under that name - Tony Curtis from then on.

Another one I have seen El

It was shown on television this week and I've recorded it to watch. May have seen it years ago.

Watched "Pursued" (1947) a few days ago. Starred Robert Mitchum and Teresa Wright. Can be regarded as an early psychological western. A cross between a drama, a film noir and a western. Almost once of the classic westerns but not quite.

From your description that sounds vaguely familiar El

The Only Connect wall puzzle in next week's Radio Times magazine is one of their easier ones.

The puzzle is sort the following 16 into 4 groups of 4. There's nothing cryptic about this one,
Sven
Constable
Elsa
Emin
Turner
Alf
Hepworth
Bobby
Copper
Anna
Old Bill
Olaf
Gareth
Peeler
Fabio
Fed

@~Sparkling Summer~ will get one of these groups

I have only managed one group of four, two groups of three

Hi Sweet

All well in Moonieland fankoo. I hope you and Miss Bramble are too ðŸūðŸū

Awww, glad you’re all sorted now Sweet

Moonie

Good morning everyone

Some brightness here but expected to be a cloudy day.

Welcome back Summer and I'm glad things are more sorted out for you

I'm no fan of fireworks as many animals and birds are terrified of them. When I and my brother were young and my parents got fireworks, they always opted for the less noisy ones rather than the bangers

I hope everyone has a good day

Moonie, I hope you find some football matches to watch.

FA cup first round matches - Cheltenham at home to South Shields. Cheltenham will be favourires but South Shields is a team which is ambitious - if their previous season hadn't been scrapped, they would have been promoted 4 times in 4 seasons. So there is a real possibility of a cup upset. In the last round of the qualifiers they beat Halifax 2-0. Halifax is one league below Cheltenham.

I have plenty both recorded and live to watch thanks El

I predict a 2-1 win for Cheltenham
