The self-employment income suuport scheme grant for November to January has been amended again. It had been set at a rate of 20%, then increased to 40%. Today it's been increased to 55%. The announcement that it had been increased uo to 80% sounded to good to be true. So I checked it out with the HM Treasury website. It's effectively 80% for November and 40% for December and January, Those percentages are of the annual profits made so you have to take 3/12th of the profit to work out the grant. As before the grant is capped, this time it's capped at ÂĢ5,160.

Does any of that messing about have any effect on your work El?

I've been keeping my clients informed of these grants by email since they started. I sent an email when the third grant was announced. Then an update when it was increased last month. I was expecting another change to be announced today. Listened to what was announced in the House of Commons this afternoon. Held back emailing clients about it being increased to 80% from November as that would have been surprising if it had been for November to January. I had expected it to be around 50% to 55%. Waited until I saw what the Treasury department was saying. Then sent an email to clients.

So in terms of keeping clients informed, it's been quite a lot of work over the months. People have to claim the grants themselves, agents such as myself can't. The grants will be taxable in this current tax year so I'll need to ask clients what grants, if any, they have claimed. Some won't have claimed any, some will have claimed one but not all of them, some may have claimed all. Calculations are made by HMRC so don't involve work by me.

The majority of my clients don't employ any people so the furlong scheme hasn't involved much work for me. Many accountants run payrolls for their clients so they would have had a lot of extra work to do.

Good evening all

Another wet and windy day.

Thanks everyone, I got 7 hours sleep last night so.....the mallet worked, Moonie

I got my hair cut today so, if Scotland goes into lockdown for a month, I should still look human😄

El, I love the whale sculpture.

Hope everyone has had a good day

Sorry I missed you Yogi but glad you got that seven hours sleep

Moonie

Good morning everyone

May get some showers here, settled weather for the rest of the week expected.

Yogi, I'm glad you had a better night's sleep

Moonie, a temporary loss of internet would be bad, a permanent loss would mean I would have to cease working - all my filing with HMRC is online.

I hope everyone has a good day

Major changes on Freeview channels tomorrow. It's because Ofcom require the public service channels to have relatively low channel numbers. BBC Four Scotland has been on channel 55. Used to be channel 9 as in the rest of the country until BBC Scotland started - that uses channel 9. So from tomorrow BBC Four Scotland moves to channel 24.

ITV 4 is currently on channel 24. So that is moving up one number to channel 25 and there's a domino effect for all channels all the way up to channel 54 which is Five Select which moves up to channel 55.

Channels 1 (BBC One) to channel 23 (the obscure channel CCXTV) and channel 56 (Smithsonian) upwards don't change.

Ofcom rules on the public service channels (which have to be in place by 4 January next year) are:
BBC One, BBC Two, Channel 3 licences so ITV), Channel 4 and Channel 5 have to be in the first 5 slots.
A change for Wales S4C has to be in slot 4 and Channel 4 in the first 8 slots
BBC Four; BBC Scotland and BBC Alba in Scotland; and S4C on UK-wide EPGs have to be in first 24 slots (hence tomorrow's change re BBC Four Scotland)
BBC Childrens channels have to be within the first 8 slots of the childrens section. (affects Sky rather than Freeview)
