I am just watching a recorded Chinese soccer match. There is a foreign player who’s name is...Hulk and believe me he is built like the Hulk too

His real name is Givanildo Vieira de Sousa (born 25 July 1986), known as Hulk (Brazilian Portuguese)

The Hulk has just converted a penalty for SIPG FC

I could say how incredible and ask if he ripped his shirt when he scored but I won't

A BBC article about someone who owes HMRC £180k:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54604132
There was also a radio progamme on Radio 4 about this.

It's to do with what is called a loan charge introduced by the government and HMRC to tackle what are called disguised remuneration schemes.

Those are a form of tax avoidance scheme where someone would take a loan out from their own company instead of taking out a dividend or a salary. Dividends and salaries get taxed. The way those schemes were set up was so that the loan didn't get taxed. The loan charge was introduced so that the person gets taxed on that loan. A lot more complicated than that but that's the effect.

I don't have any clients like that and I wouldn't take on clients who did things like that.

The government is intending to bring in legislation targeting promoters of such schemes via the Finance Bill 2020-21 but that's a bill rather than an act so not yet in force.

Moonie, Hulk used to play for Porto and would have played for them in the UEFA Champions League. He also played for Brazil and was in their team for the London Olympics in 2012. Scored theit goal in the final where they were beaten by Mexico. I thought I recognised the name and that would be why.

Got a phone call, one of those recorded messages about my internet connection being cancelled in 24 hours due to illegal activity. There was clearly a technical problem with the recording as from time to time the woman's voice slowed down and slurred - rather as if she was a bit tipsy

A third of Post Office machines to close. Not good news for those areas with people who depend on them.

Pst Office says that the ones to be closed are little used and that there are other free cash facilities close by. People will still be able to get cash over the counter.

Small tribute to Frank Bough whose death was announced today. These are the three music themes used on Grandstand during the years he presented it.
News Scoop by Len Stevens used until November 1971:

Theme by Barry Stoller from then to October 1975. It is the theme used though the visuals aren't from Grandstand:

And the theme by Keith Mansfield from then and still used after Frank Bough was sacked following a scandal:

I remember the first and third themes but not the second.

Re Michael Palin. There's a documentary by him on BBC Four tonight about the 17th century artist Artemisia Gentileschi. It has been on BBC Four before. It's rather different from his travel documentaries.
She is now considered one of the best artists of that time. I think the documentary could be quite extraordinary but there was a horrific ordeal for her when she was a young woman and I doubt that it is glossed over by Palin.
There was a foreign film "Artemisia" about her life made in 1997 which has been shown on television. The film was controversial as it gave a false account of that ordeal. If you've ever seen that film, it's a fabrication and is a lie.
