My day has been quiet...which I was quite happy about
Good morning everyone it's windy and wet with a lot more rain to follow, so stay dry everybody.
Enjoy your day everyone
Good morning everyone
A day of two halves. From kick off to half time, it's cloudy but dry. The second half is wet and windy.
I hope everyone has a good day
Good morning everyone
Itβs very windy. Light rain turning heavier this afternoon
Shopping to do, hopefully before the heavy rain comes
Have a nice weekend everyone
Moonie, I hope you get your shopping done before that heavy rain starts
Started raining as I went shopping this morning which was not forecast
Don't forget, the clocks go back an hour tonight.
Fjodor van den Broek, the horological conservator at Windsor Castle, will be busy today:

Will take him about 15 hours this weekend to change all 400 clocks

I'm glad you were able to get home without being soaked
That man is certianly going to be busy
Cheltenham have another home match this afternoon. As the previous match the opposition is a team vert near the bottom. Cheltenham did win the previous match 1-0 but that was from an early penalty. I would hope for a more convincing win. As I have said, Cheltenham's home performances have been poorer than their away form.
Good luck for your team, though that's not until Monday,

Itβs chucking it down now El
Yep, I tend to keep an eye on Cheltenham nowadays, for some reason
Thanks
We are away at Brighton, kickoff 5-30
Watched a black and white western film called "The Tin Star" (1957). Surprisingly good film. Leads were Henry Fonda as a bounty hunter and Anthony Perkins as a young inexperienced sheriff. One of those films where I thought that they were so right for their characters that I couldn't imagine anyone else doing it. That's one of the signs of a really good film. Can you imagine anyone other than Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz, or James Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life? The film isn't as good as those but the acting was just right.
The weather is dreadful here. Radio commentators have said that they wouldn't be surprised if the players at Cheltenham had to come offf due to the downpour. Eased a bit but the weather is so poor that the players are having difficulties and it's not a good game as a result.

You must be glad not to be out in that
Back on the 10th I posted about my brother discovering that his landline phone connection being out. We had put it down to a scammer call not properly disconnecting after ringing. That was not the case. BT sorted it out by the following morning.
Then the same thing happened a week later. He contacted BT again and by the following day it was sorted out.
Then the same thing happened on Thursday. Clearly this was something else. He contacted BT again and this time got through to a person rather than having to leave a message. They accepted that there was a problem. They would send out an engineer to get this sorted out. Estimated time of completion was by next Wednesday. In the mean time they agreed to get his landline calles forwarded to his mobile phone for no charge.
I talked to my brother this morning for our Saturday chat. We do it at the same time each Saturday and have just under an hour as I get the first hour free at the weekend.
I said that this sounded as if the was some corrosion on the phone wire at either the end at the box at the house end or at the end in the BT cabinet (those green boxes on pavements).
This afternoon my brother rang to say that the engineer had sorted the problem out and had contacted him to let him know. It was one of the phone wires in the BT cabinet which had become corroded and so had to be replaced.
So, hopefully, my brother's land line is back in working order.

Thatβs great news about your brotherβs landline El, hopefully
You had it spot on
I see your game was the only one that finished 0-0 in league 2 but still a point is better than non

Yes, that's good news What the engineer found was the most likely explanation. You may remember that before I switched to Virgin, I had major problems with getting any internet connection though the phone line was fine. A BT line though I was with Orange. I thought then that the problem was with corrosion somewhere along the phone cable between my house and the telephone pole. Gave up Orange who refused to do anything about it. Did talk to someone at BT who said that I should report Orange to Ofcom. I didn't bother because the last man I had spoken to at Orange would almost certainly have deleted any recording of our conversation. He would have realised that if I reported him he would have been sacked with no notice as it would have been considered gross misconduct. Didn't believe me, clearly wasn't interested in what I said, and had no intention of doing anything.
I think the external wiring used (not the modern cable wiring) by BT is 4 core so a cable with 4 wires inside with the wires serving different purposes. So if one of those wires becomes corroded at one end, there are connection problems of one sort or another, Which wire does what is a question for an electrician

I have seen inside one of those green cabinets El
Thousands of wires with hundreds of terminals. It was like a maze of wiring
Dutch Eredivisie football...VVV-Venlo 0 -13 Ajax

I've seen the inside of those as well. Seen one of their engineers looking through all those wires. As you say, it's a maze.
VVV-Venio. I wonder if the VVV stands for veni, vici, vidi, the famous quote by Caesar after one of his victories (=I came, I saw, I conquered).
The VVV would now need to be changed to VNSV standing for victi sumus nos vidimus whiich according to Google translate is Latin for we came we saw we were conquered.
Venio is the Latin for coming so what I've said is plausible.

This what Wikipedia says of the VVV, El...VVV stands for Venlose Voetbal Vereniging
Venlo is a border town on the Dutch-German in the Netherlands
Moonie, I misread venlo as venio which is why I thought of Latin.
I've had to amend what I said about the Caesar quote as it's a myth that he said that on invading this country. If he said it at all it was at the battle of Zela which was in what is now Turkey,

Lovely to hear from you, Yogi

Nick Jonah Davis lives in rural Derbyshire and is a composer and guitarist. I heard this piece of music last night, it was released earlier this month. Partially folk music though I thought with an Indian influence. The peacock species with the spectacular plumage did originate in the Indian su-continent.
Good morning Buddies
Rain overnight. Currently dry but more rain expected later on today
I have nothing planned
Have a lovely Sunday everyone

His real name is Givanildo Vieira de Sousa (born 25 July 1986), known as Hulk (Brazilian Portuguese)
