Good evening all

Thank you for your good wishes. I’m afraid my meds aren’’t working and atm there is no alternative.
I have bad days and not so bad days and I’ll pop in here on the not so bad days.
Sadly, I’ve had to make the decision to put tiddler minding on hold, as my compromised immune system combined with the rising Covid infection rate is making it too risky.
Hope you are all well and staying safe.

Goodnight and sweet dreams, Ros and Moonie

Hug for any night owls

awww yogi loads ofthat must have been  such a hard decision to give up tiddler minding

Good morning everyone it's overcast this morning and a little less windy but no rain in the forecast.

That's quite a blow about the little ones Yogi. This awful virus seems to be bringing calamity in its wake more and more all the time. Is there hope in the pipeline of the medics being able to adjust your meds for a better outcome?

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Good morning everyone

Yesterday's rain continued here throughout the night but seems to be coming to an end.

Yogi, sad news about your medication and the tiddlers I echo what Squiggle says above

I hope everyone has a good day

If any of you have seen the current advert for Estrella beer (it's being shown on Channel 4 and Sky related channels) you may be puzzled by it. The beer is made near the Mediterranean Sea. The swimmer is sort of a mermaid though not obvious as she has legs. It's to highlight pollution in that sea and other seas as to the effect it is having.
The words of the song have been written for the advert. The music is based on ‘Otra forma de vivir’ by Joan Dausà, María Rodés & Santi Balmes.

No, I hadn't. Thank you

Cerys Matthews, who I have posted about in the past, has done a lot of work promoting Dylan Thomas. She made a documentaty about him for the BBC, written music for some of his poetry, and some years ago recited Under Milk Wood on the radio.

El Loro

Cerys Matthew's uncle (actually a cousin who was a lot older and she called him Uncle), Colin Edwards, was a journalist. One of his cousins had been friends with Dylan Thomas many years ago. She put him in touch with Dylan Thomas's mother back in 1958. From then, over the years, he met and interviewed many friends, family and colleagues of Dylan Thomas. Many of those were recorded and about 200 hours of those were bequeathed to the National Library of Wales.

Squiggle, to quote my consultant, I’m afraid there is nothing left for me to try in the medical arsenal. However, new drugs are being developed all the time so I haven’t given up hope.

I hope you’ve all had a good day.

The third series of Frankie Drake Mysteries starts tonight on the Drama channel (already shown on one of the non-Freeview channels), Frankiw Drake and her friends are private investigators and the series is set in Toronto in the 1920s. Same productions team of Murdoch Mysteries.

The episode tonight goes elswhere to England. After a wartime friend has gone missing, Frankie goes in search and teams up with Agatha Christie. Agatha Christie had only written a couple of books by then so that would place the episode in 1922 or 1923, What is of interest is that Agatha Christie is played by Honeysuckle Weeks, the first tv work she's done since she got into the headlines when she went missing. That's a one of episode but it's possible that she could return in a future series of Frankie Drake. At one point in tonight's episode  Agatha tells Frankie that if she ever went missing she would want Frankie to be the one looking for her. And of course Agatha did go missing in 1926.

Moonie, Frankie Drake Mysteries is quite good natured and enjoyable. Most episodes have the 4 lead characters. Frankie Drake and her partner Trudy Clarke. Mary Shaw works for the local police as what was known as a "morality officer". That's in Canada and is someone who keeps a check on the "cleaniness" of people. That;s a secondary part of her role in the series, and she's the one who helps the others out. Her uniform is the most attractive uniform of any police officer in the world. The fourth person is Flo Chakowitz who is a morgue assistant . Nothing to gruesome. Although the programme is shown at 21.00, it's not a post watershed programme and could be shown earlier/

Sometimes, as with Murdoch Mysteries, you get the likes of Agatha Christie. Ernest Hemingway, Mack Sennett and Coco Chanel appearing.

Last night's Radio 3's "The Night Tracks Mix" was based on rain. For me, the highlight was this which from the late Joseph Shabalala and his choral group.

He was from South Africa. The song may surprise you.

Watched a few seconds of BBC Two's Decimate and gave up watching very quickly.
3 questions on Terry, the easiest being the 3rd if the contestant passes the others. Has to correctly answer one of them and the timer is going down.
First question "Between 1979 and 1981 Terry Hall was the lead singer of which band?" "The Rolling Stones". "No, the Specials"
Second question "Who replaced Terry Wogan as the presenter on Eurovision Song Contest? ""Pass". "It was Graham Norton"
Third question "The manager of the England Football team between 1994 and 1996 was Terry who?"
The answer given by the contestant was staggeringly wrong. I could understand it if he didn't know (Moonie will know the answer Terry Venables" but what sort of person would answer:
"Terry Pratchett"

And now the Norwegian string duo Vilde & Inga.

I did find a clip of their's which is twice as long but thought I'd be kind and post the shorter one

A link to a page on old newspaper articles:
https://www.britishnewspaperar...gloucester%2Bcitizen

Down the page is a heading "Trinity College of Music". There's some names there and in the second line is the name "Lionel Hilton". The article was dated 26 May 1942, years before I was born.

You might be puzzled as to why I mention that name. I think that may be the only online reference in existence to him. You can tell from that heading that Lionel Hilton lived in Gloucester and was musicaly inclined. He knew my father who was also musically inclined, an extremely good amateur pianist.

Lionel would go to London and came to know my mother who was living there after the war. My mother was interested in music and played the violin but not as good as my father on the piano. Lionel thought that my father and my mother would be a good match so he arranged for them to meet (under one of the clocks at Paddington Station).

After what would have been a bit of a whirlwind romance they decided to get married and live in Gloucester. Lionel Hilton was to be best man, not surprisingly.

I was born just after 9 months after they married. I never got to meet Lionel Hilton though. On the morning of the wedding he dropped down dead from a sudden heart attack. My parents went ahead with the wedding though as she had already moved to Gloucester and her familiy lived hundreds of miles away.

So, although I never knew Lionel Hilton, I'll never forget him.
