A link to a page on old newspaper articles:

Down the page is a heading "Trinity College of Music". There's some names there and in the second line is the name "Lionel Hilton". The article was dated 26 May 1942, years before I was born.
You might be puzzled as to why I mention that name. I think that may be the only online reference in existence to him. You can tell from that heading that Lionel Hilton lived in Gloucester and was musicaly inclined. He knew my father who was also musically inclined, an extremely good amateur pianist.
Lionel would go to London and came to know my mother who was living there after the war. My mother was interested in music and played the violin but not as good as my father on the piano. Lionel thought that my father and my mother would be a good match so he arranged for them to meet (under one of the clocks at Paddington Station).
After what would have been a bit of a whirlwind romance they decided to get married and live in Gloucester. Lionel Hilton was to be best man, not surprisingly.
I was born just after 9 months after they married. I never got to meet Lionel Hilton though. On the morning of the wedding he dropped down dead from a sudden heart attack. My parents went ahead with the wedding though as she had already moved to Gloucester and her familiy lived hundreds of miles away.
So, although I never knew Lionel Hilton, I'll never forget him.
