I agree Skylark, I find the heat very tiring.  Its very brave of you to be cleaning today what with the heat and I thought you would be resting after your exertions with the little one.  As Mildred Pierce is on Sky 1 I would have thought it would definitely be repeated some time this week.  It might be rubbish but I will have a look see.

Ooh it is hot here now (the sun beats right through the windows on this side of the house as it sets) < red face indicates heat not anger

Hi Skylark it was very hot out and quite hot in church (lots of people don't like open windows ) but lovely and cool to come home.  The house stays nice and cool all day until near sunset and then its like an oven on this side   I am looking forward to a nice storm clearing the air.  My brain gets overheated and I have to keep correcting what I type or you would never understand it   I know just what you mean, its the same when the grandsons come over, I just wash the floor and then they go out on the trail bike and come back looking like Stig of the Dump muddy footprints everywhere.

Night night, I hope you can sleep despite the heat, night night to everyone now, hope its cooler in the morning.

Good morning everyone

It's another hot day, but heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected so it will cool down. It's the south-east and east of England where there is a weather warning for this so Joyronland and Wimbledon could get very wet. The heat doesn't bother me too much as years ago when I had an over-active thyroid, one of the effects that I always felt hot so at present it feels cooler to me now then it did at that time.

Yogi, I was diagnosed with an over-active thyroid over 15 years ago. I was put on medication for a year to suppress the symptoms. An over active thyroid is more serious than an under active thyroid due to the symptoms including increased blood pressure and increased heart rate. I was taken off the medication after a year to see if the overactivity returned or not. It returned within a few days. Doctors would not be prepared to let patients be on medication for life, so the options were either surgery or a dose of radioactive iodine. The thyroid gland thrives on iodine so the radioactive iodine would be drawn to the thyroid rather than just circulating in the body. You may remember that people who were exposed to radioactive iodine in the Japanese disaster were treated with heavy doses of ordinary iodine so that their thyroids couldn't absorb so much of the radioactive iodine and their bodies just eliminated it.

I chose the radioactive thyroid as by that time I had my own business so didn't want to lose the income caused by not being able to work after surgery. I was given a dosage sufficient to kill off the excess part of the thyroid and had to be in isolation for a couple of weeks for obvious reasons. Patients are always given a bit too much iodine in order to ensure that the procedure does not have to be repeated. The result is that your thyroid becomes underactive and that is treated in the normal way with thyroxine - the thyroid hormone, so provided the dosage is at the correct level and regularly monitored with blood tests there are no side effects.

Thanks for explaining it, El. I'm glad they managed to sort it out for you.

Good morning everyone, a nice fresh morning at the moment, with a feeling in the air that its going to get hotter later.  I have every window open downstairs and am getting a lovely breeze coming in.

I found it very interesting to hear about your thyroid EL.  My husband's thyroid was damaged very badly by the radiation he had to undergo and he was on thyroxine for the rest of his life, it had to be gradually increased.  The damage to his saliva glands was worse and it virtually destroyed them thereby killing off his appetite for ever (and incidentally causing him to lose his beautiful teeth)

Thanks for the update Joyron, sounds like a lovely lovely day, so glad for you

Afternoon everyone.    Glad you enjoyed my little story and didn't find it too boring.  So pleased to hear that your son may soon be able to return to work Skylark.

It has been really hot and humid here all day.  There is a threat of thunderstorms tonight but unfortunately not in our area.  We really do need something to cool things down, although the forecast for tomorrow is a little cooler anyway so hopefully that will be the case.

It's not been too bad inside today as I have kept the windows closed and kept the humid heat out.  As soon as it starts to cool down I will be off around the house to open up all the windows to let, hopefully, some cooler air in.  Will catch up with you all again tomorrow.

Joyron

Hi everyone, its a lot cooler here now and the wind is getting up so I suppose some rain will come along.  I don't cope well with the humidity and feel a lot more comfortable now.

I wanted to practice my  video insertion so I found this little clip and will have a go at inserting it here, its quite cute.  Poor little ducklings being blown over by a high wind, they are OK though although mum looks a bit ruffled at the end.
