Good morning everyone it's a little cloudy this morning. Moonie and Velvet I hope today will be a better day for you both, joins in with  Yogi to give lots of hugs. Tis a strange world we're living in at the moment.

I noticed from the front page that our 10 year anniversary is coming up on Monday! We're one of the oldest threads. How does everyone think we should celebrate?

Enjoy your day everyone

Squiggle, one way to mark the 10th anniversary is for you to find and insert a title image which you would do by editing your original post. You would need to get the image on your computer.
I did this topic on it:
https://www.gagajoyjoy.com/top...-image-a-new-feature

The image then appears at the top of every page of the topic.

EC has done that for the Project 365 topic if you want to see what it would look like.

One can also use an image from the Unsplash website but the range of photos seems very limited.

Summer, best of BB starts on this Sunday the 14th on E4 at 21.00 for about 75 to 80 minutes (length seems to vary).
10 episodes, 5 from Sunday 14th to Thursday 18th, then the other 5 from Sunday 21st to Thursday 25th. Not known if this will be just the C4 series or also the C5 series. Mix of BB and CBB.

Baz has set up a topic for this so it's probable that much of the posting replies during viewing will be on that:

I won't be watching as I wasn't ever a fan of BB.

Good morning everyone

Weather is cool and cloudy.

Gosh, time flies quickly Squiggle, I had no idea we had been in the Buddies for 10years.....and some of us were in the Freddie thread together before that.

Moonie, I hope today is a better day for you

El, how did you come to join this forum as you never watched BB, were you on another of the CH4 forums and moved across with us?

Summer, do you have a busy day planned?

Have a good day and stay safe, all

Yogi19

Yes Yogi many of us were in the Freddie supporters thread before, and I was a Rachel's angel before that.  Thank you for the suggestion EL but I was thinking of a way that we could celebrate as a group.  Summer's suggestion is a good one or maybe we could have a 'best of BB' ourselves thinking and remembering some of the things we loved, or hated.  I will never forget poor tuneless Ben attempting to sing, Don't Stop Believing. Anyway thinking caps on!

Yogi, I was on the CH4 forum though didn't post much so unlikely that anyone on this forum would have noticed me

I tended to post mainly in the films and news sections. There was also a section where I had a thread about really hard puzzles for others to try and work out.

I did post one of those puzzles on the forum years ago though I'm not sure anyone tried to answer it. It's not one I created.
A rope will burn in exactly one hour, but at different rates during that hour. If you have 2 of these ropes and a lighter but nothing else how do you measure 45 minutes?
It's not a trick question, it's completely fair. It's one of those puzzles which stumps virtually everyone and when they see the answer it's surprisingly simple. You don't need to be a scientist, a magician, and just elementary maths from primary education.
Answer can be seen:

I have just had a rather dodgy call from someone claiming to be from Amazon re a subscription I had allegedly made for Amazon Prime. This character on a very crackly line wanted me to fill in an online form to get my subscription back. The more I questioned him the less I was convinced of his authenticity. In the end the phone went dead.
I did not give him any personal information or fill in any forms online or otherwise

My caller blocker has been turned back on

You did the right thing, Moonie

I get lots of recorded scam phone calls supposedly regarding my Amazon Prime subscription telling me to press a button. I don't as I know it's a scam.
I put the phone down on the call. But the phone call isn't disconnected straight away - I only get the ordinary dialling tone after nearly a minute. I think that the scammers don't disconnect straight away in order to trick people in thinking that if they dial a number to talk to someone they are actually talking to the scammers. That's a standard trick by criminals trying to con people out of money. The criminals are making millions out of these scams.

Whenever you get a suspect call, after ending it, never ring any number straightaway, Wait a minute and make sure you hear a dialling tone before dialling a number.

Thanks El. I appreciate your input

I’m watching the Maltese Falcon

I've only seen that film once, Moonie. A good film and quite a debut for John Huston, the director.

Film remakes tend to be not as good as the original. But sometimes a remake oveshadows the original. The Maltese Falcon is one such film. Here's a short clip from the 1931 original. I haven't seen it and doubt if I would bother.

Sam Spade is played by Ricardo Cortez.

I never knew that the Humphrey Bogart version was a remake El

Moonie

Huston and Bogart made quite a few films together such as "The African Queen".

One of there films was the 1948 "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" That also had John's father Walter in the cast.  I've only seen it once many years ago. It's a good film but is a really dark film about a group of men prospecting for gold in the Sierra Madre mountains. It shows just how corrupting greed can be. I don't watch films made by the Coen Brothers, but if the film was remade, they would be the obvious people to do it. Watch it it you get the chance, but don't expect to like it.

I have watched both of those two films on many occasions El. The African Queen has been on several times over the last few months

Moonie, I’m glad you didn’t fall victim to that scam

I’ve had a few scam calls re Amazon Prime but they have been automated calls. I hung up on them.

El, you know I’m useless at anything that involves maths or logical thinking so I had to look up the answer

Fankoo Yogi

I think you have to be very careful these days
