I've been emailing (or writing) to all my self-employed clients who have a second tax payment on account to pay in July to let them know it has been deferred until January.

Have yet to contact the clients who also have a second tax payment due in July where the tax doesn't arise on self-employment but on other income such as letting income. At present it looks as if the deferrment is just for self-employed people.

Just had a phone call from the client I mentioned a few days ago - as I thought, their income has been drastically hit.

Good afternoon all

A dry bright and cool day. Opened all the windows to let in some fresh air.
We’ve been checking with with my parents daily and they are doing okay.

El are these changes going to be a lot of extra work for you or will it just mean deferring the work?

Hope everyone is fine - stay safe, lovely Buddies

Yogi, the changes I've mentioned above don't mean extra work other than contacting clients - the process of deferring the July tax payment will be done by HMRC - we don't need to inform them.

It's thought that the government will do something for those self employed people who find that they are unable to do work. Employers will get an 80% grant on keeping employees on their payroll where that person would otherwise be laid off. So it's already been said that that's unfair for a self employed person. It's relatively easy for HMRC to work out the grant for employees as employers have to notify HMRC of what they are paying someone every time they pay. Not so easy for HMRC to work out a figure for a self employed person as generally HMRC are only provided a profit figure for a tax year some time after the end of a tax year.

If something like that was to be introduced then that might mean extra work for me.

As far as routine tax return work is concerned, it's the quiet time of year. Even in a normal year I'm not doing much during February, March, and most of April. Tax returns won't have to be filed until 31 January so it may not be much of a problem for me in a logistics sense.

I'm glad your parents are doing OK
