Hope you all wellX
Yogi , keep calm and carry on

Glad he's feeling a bit better today, Skylark.

Considering the chaos that is going on around me, I am remaining calm and carrying on.

As long as the washing machine is reconnected by tonight, I won't tear my hair out.

Thank you for organising the Chinese takeaway, Summer. It will be so much better than last night's scrambled eggs (made in the microwave).

You are in for a treat, I watched it (again ) about 2 weeks ago and enjoyed it every bit as much. I've said it before and I'll say it again they don't make films like that any more

Talking of classic films, BBC2 are having an season of Cary Grant films next week. Unless otherwise mentioned they start at 1.00 in the afternoon:

Monday 13 kicks off with Only Angels have Wings (1939), action film about a civil airline taking mail and freight over the Andes. It also stars Jean Arthur and Rita Hayworth.

On Tuesday 14 there's Gunga Din (1939), another action film, sort of based on the poem by Rudyard Kipling. It also stars Douglas Fairbanks jnr.

On Wednesday 15 there's Bringing Up Baby (1938) - this is the only one which starts at a different time - 1.40 in the afternoon. This has to be one of the best comedies ever made. It also stars Katherine Hepburn.

On Thursday 16 there's Holiday (1938). This is a romantic comedy which again stars Katherine Hepburn.

And on Friday 17 there's His Girl Friday (1939), and is based on the play The Front Page and is possibly the fastest talking comedy made with sparks flying between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell.

All 5 films were made in the space of 2 years and are what made Cary Grant one of the most popular actors ever.

All 5 are worth watching, but my own favourite is Bringing Up Baby. Incidentally there is a scene where Grant is wearing a woman's dressing gown and says to his aunt "Because I just went gay all of a sudden!". Many film historians accept that this is the first time in a mainstream Hollywood film "gay" was used in its' modern sense. Cary Grant just ad libbed it, and it went through the very strict censorship rules at the time probably because the censors just assumed that Grant had used it in its' correct sense.

Good idea, Skylark.

I'm off to bed now, as I have to be up early in the morning. The electrician is coming round to change a cable or something. Goodnight for now.

BTW, if I'm not around in the morning (in the Casey thread), it means Mr Yogi has dragged me out to look for tiles.

I think Mr Yogi would prefer it if I turned into Nigella.

Goodnight Squiggle, see you tomorrow.

As long as you turn into Nigella - you wouldn't want to turn into Fanny Craddock

Good morning everyone

The day has started nice and sunny, but heavy showers are predicted later this afternoon.

And tomorrow still looks wet, but the rain is now predicted to start mid morning rather than first thing.

Re my posting yesterday about the Cary Grant film season. The final at Queens is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, but because of the forecast, there has to be a realistic chance that this could get postponed until Monday, so I suggest you keep a check on program timings.

I think Mr Yogi might leave home if that happened.

Good morning everyone, it's nice and sunny up here.

You have a busy weekend ahead, have a great time, Summer.

Squiggle, that is one very strange tree.

Yogi19

Hi x Scary tree
Its been our local gala day here, a procession this morning of floats, kids all dressed up, bit like a carnival, then on to the park with lots of stalls, a fun fair, a stage set up for local radio and bands, and it has lashed rain all day !!! What a wash out, its a terrible shame, there is such a lot of work put into it. The funfair sounds like it has shut down, health and safety i would imagine. My son is still there, he must be soaked, he says he is fine! What can you do?  A cough and cold coming up on his list of ailments..........

FM

Good morning everyone

Thanks Summer for the yummy breakfast. I hope all goes well at the christening.

Here it has already started raining, fairly light at present, but will get heavier later on - a good inch of rain is expected by the time the rain ceases which is expected to be well into the evening. I may watch the final at Queens on television, but there has to be doubt as to whether they will be able to play at all today because of the rain. I know they brought the final forward to start at noon, but the rain seems to have decided to start earlier than expected.

El Loro

Hi everyone, pouring with rain here.  Thanks for the delicious pancakes and fruit Summer, I'm glad you have sun today and can wear your summery outfit.

Off to church soon for a family service to celebrate Pentecost (the gift of the Holy Spirit).  Hope everyone manages to dodge the rain, I don't hold out much hope for the final at Queens taking place EL.

squiggle

squiggle, I think you are right about Queens - it sounds as if it is likely to get postponed until tomorrow starting as 12.30. The BBC haven't yet announced what television coverage there will be, but I think it likely that Only Angels Have Wings will be a casualty.

Still raining here, with more to come today. The good thing is that it will help farmers, gardeners, and may reduce the risk of hosepipe bans in the South West and the Midlands (Gloucester is in between the two).
