Yogi, my father had sciatica once a year or so after he had retired. It was winter time and had been brought on by shovelling up snow from the drive. The doctor told him to stay in bed until he recovered, He was there for weeks, Nowadays doctors wouldn't advise that as prolonged bed rest doesn't really help.

The sciatic nerve runs from the hip to the feet and generally sciatica is felt there so if the pain is just in your back I'm not sure it is sciatica.

I hope all goes well at the doctor.

I was trying to be a bit delicate, describing it as back pain. The pain is actually in my butt - until Boxing Day, it was on the right side but now it’s on the left. It isn’t bad when I’m sitting down but as soon as I attempt to stand up or walk around ie bear weight, the pain is really bad. The nurse said it sounded like sciatica.

Yes, that would make it much more likely to be sciatica rather than back pain

It has eased off slightly this afternoon so fingers crossed.🤞🏻

That’s really good news Yogi 🙂

Yes, I am enjoying my football fankoo

Watched that Christmas Repair Shop yesterday evening. One of the items was a Hornby train set. The locomotive was similar to the one I was given years ago which I've still got (not that I've used it in years). So I looked and it's the same model though mine is at least a decade older than the one shown in the programme,

And I've still got those boxes.

Good morning everyone

Light rain and breeze are forecast.

That’s a fabulous steam engine to have , El, especially as you still have the boxes too

Thank you, the sciatica hasn’t worsened overnight

Have a good day, all.

Good morning everyone, a simply beautiful morning here, cold but with brilliant sunshine.  I haven't watched The Repair Shop yet EL but I shall watch it with even greater interest now to see the train that is the same as yours.

I thought that the mark of sciatica was that the pain travelled down the leg, ie down the sciatic nerve Yogi.  Could you be suffering from a cramp of the large bottom muscles (gluteous maximus)?  I have suffered from that before and I find that gentle warmth helps it to heal.  I'm glad it's no worse this morning anyway.

Enjoy your day everyone

Good afternoon Buddies

Cool but sunny here. A slight breeze but not to bad

I love old stuff like that El. Having the original boxes adds to the value, I would guess. I haven’t seen this particular program but I have watched them in the past

Yogi, I’m glad you aren’t any worse today

Hi squiggle

I hope you have a lovely

Back later. Enjoy your day everyone

Moonie

Moonie, when I first moved in to my house I took my railway things to a place which dealt with things like that. The man looked them over and offered me something like £80 so I brought them back home with me. I did a search today and found that the same locomotive and tender had been sold at auction for £32 (don't know if those were boxed). So, although they have some value, they aren't of huge monetary value. More sentimental value rather than financial.

Around the same time I sold off a collection of cigarette cards which had been collected by my grandfather. I had no interest in them and didn't want to keep them (he died from lung cancer). No complete sets and I got £60. No idea if they were worth more than that, I just wanted to get rid of them.

Apparently a lot of people are having problems with Freeview on their televisions, either no reception or distorted pictures. Freeview says it's because of high pressure and "atmospheric temperature inversion". Once the weather changes, reception will go back to normal - there's no need to return. Seems to be the southern half of the UK

Hi Squiggle. You are quite right that sciatica can affect the leg and even the feet, as well as the hips. The worst of my pain is in my hips but when I get the shooting pains they do affect the back of my thighs. It has been going on for two and a half weeks now.

I have managed to get an appointment with the GP’s physio on Tuesday morning.

I can see why you got rid of the cigarette cards El

Good morning everyone it was such an unexpectedly sunny day yesterday, I wonder if we will be so lucky today.  I'm glad you managed to get a physio appointment Yogi and hope they can get the problem sorted.

I'm looking forward to watching that Repair Shop episode even more now.

Hi there Moonie, I keep forgetting to say hello to you

Rather apt on New Year's Eve when there may be a little intake of alcohol going on, a baby pink elephant!

That’s okay squiggle

What a beautiful baby

Moonie

Good afternoon all

A dry and frosty day.

I’ve been doing some food prep as we have the clan coming for dinner tomorrow. I put a chair in the kitchen so I could sit down at times and rest my back.

The baby elephant is gorgeous. I love elephants.😍

Did you venture out, Moonie?
Have a good day, all.

Hi Yogi

I did venture out to two local towns. The bus service was as per a Tuesday so no problems getting about

Good idea to sit down while preparing food for the clan visitors tomorrow

Moonie

Glad you managed to get out and about, Moonie

Apologies everyone, I thought yesterday was Tuesday🙈 so, when I said I had a physio appointment for next Tuesday, I meant January 7th and not today
