Moonie, it's going to be wet here by evening and continue tomorrow - one weather site is predicting an inch of rain for the second half of tomorrow morning (that's on top of the rain before and after).

Nice to have some positive news in the world of British women tennis players as there have been injury problems for Johanna Konta and Katie Boulter though they could be back playing quite soon though it's nearing the end of the tennis season.  Heather Watson has been having a good tournament at Tianjin, China and has reached the final, her first WTA final since March 2016. She'll be back in the top 100 when the next set of rankings are released.

That was a British film released in 1970. I saw it at the cinema and was the first "X" certificate film I saw. The X certificate had changed a few months before to change it from 16 to 18, the same time as the introduction of the AA certificate which then was 14 or older. It wasn't a particularly good film and wouldn't get an 18 now (in the States it has a PG certificate).

I was disappointed in the film considering who wrote the script which is why I went to see the film. Co-written by Terry Nation (creator of the Daleks and a writer on a number of the 60s and 70s TV series such as the Saint and the Avengers) and Brian Clemens (also a writer of the Avengers etc). So anyone who was a fan of The Avengers and Doctor Who would have been inclined to see the film. (When I say The Avengers I'm referring to the 60s series - John Steed/Emma Peel, nothing to do with the Marvel series of modern films).

One likes or not, as with most music 

In terms of popular music I prefer singers who can sing in melody, are musical, and where they have reasonable diction, well known ones such as Katie Melua and Cerys Matthews (though she does many things besides singing).

On the other hand, someone like Joanna Newsom may be musical, may have her fans, but her diction is not good. I once made the mistake of getting a CD of hers called Ys. Here is one of her songs from that. I've selected one of the shorter ones to spare you. Audio only and she's also playing the harp.

Diction is the ability to sing or speak clearly.

El, I also like Barbara Dickson, Barbara  Streisand and Luciano Pavarotti as well as most forms of heavy metal etc. So I have a very eclectic taste in my music

My Black Country accent wouldn’t go down very well with purists either then

I confess that I can't say I like her though accept she's a very good singer. Many years ago I read an article in the Reader's Digest. It was written by Elliott Gould and would have been after he and Barbra separated - they had been married. It would have been written in the early 70s. At that time, it was clear that he still had strong feelings for her but that she had gone to pursue her career. Very sad and powerful article, he wasn't bitter, just heartbroken.

Looking at my very local weather website, I see that, apart from 1 day, there's been rain every day for the last 22 days, averaging out at 4 mm a day, so quite a lot of rain. If that continues for the next 8 days, that would be about twice the monthly average for this time of year for where I live.

Thanks very much for the heads up El. I have seen a doc about him many years ago - wonder if this is the same one. I'll still record it        He was a loyal director - the guy above was a personal friend and featured in the one I remember. Forget his name but he was Leckie in Get Some In.

My interest in Lindsay Anderson is mainly because of his film "If....". That's because some of it was filmed in Cheltenham which I know and, in particular, Cheltenham College. One of the clients we had in the Cheltenham office years ago was the College. As a result I did go to the College many times though "If..." was made before then.

Cheltenham College didn't exactly approve of the film, they had thought it was going to be something like "Tom Brown's Schooldays". The famous ending wasn't what they were expecting.

4 Severn Trent water vehicles outside. The workmen are working on a significant leak on the other side of the road. Just had one of the workmen knock on the door to say that the water was going off for a few minutes shortly.

I think there have been problems on the other side of the road for some weeks but this looks like an escalation.

Don't know if the problems were caused by the pavement being replaced a few months ago. Where Severn Tent is working was the first part of the pavement to be replaced and the removal of the old pavement did seem to take much longer than I would have expected. By the time they came to deal with the pavement outside my house they seemed to be more efficient.
