Moonie, I'm glad your cygnets and goslings are thriving When is Ryan Gosling going to rename himself Ryan Gander ?

There are several players in contention for world number one in women's tennis though the current number two Naomi Osaka is out having been beaten in round one. Cori "Coco" Gauff can't be though after yesterday she looks to be a very strong contended for the number one place in the next few years and stay there for a very long time. As she's 15 she's not allowed to play more than a handful of senior level games thought there's now a campaign to get that restriction removed for her.

Good question El

I don’t think they should lift that restriction El. This will lead to early burnout in my opinion.

Yesterday I reecorded a film on the Talking Pictures channel called No Highway in the Sky and watched it later. It's a 1951 British/American film about an American aviation scientist who is convinced that the tail on the company's planes will disintegrate after a certain number of flying hours due to metal fatigue. Although it can be regarded as a thriller it's closer to a drama and a character study. It's got quite a cast - the lead is James Stewart and the three other main characters are played by Glynis Johns, Jack Hawkins and Marlene Dietrich. Although Marlene Dietrich plays an actress her character is more sympathetic that one might assume and she does fit in with the film.

It's a very good film and worth watching if it gets shown again. Don't assume that it's one of those plane disaster films. A number of uncredited people appear who you might recognise, the main one being Kenneth More. It's based on a book by Nevil Shute and directed by Henry Koster and it's strange that the film isn't much better known than it is.

Talking Pictures is a father and daughter outfit down South.

Great channel. Hope all are Hunky Dory.

You're a gentleman El

Yes, a father and daughter outfit. I, and probably many other people, hope that it keeps going as there's no other channel like it. I've mentioned it to other people who would be interested. I've spoken with Neill Stanley (the father) by phone on a couple of times, they are that approachable.

Summer, "Christmas in July" is one of those films which is rarely shown on television. You may find it better just to get a DVD of it  - Amazon has it:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chris...s=gateway&sr=8-1

It's an early 1940 Preston Sturges film. I have seen it many years ago. If I were to choose his best film it would be Sullivan's Travels made a year later.

It's a short film, little more than an hour long. There's a 55 minute ripped version on Youtube which I haven't tried to see if it's real or fake and I'm not posting a link to it as it's pirated - also if real must be missing several minutes.

Good morning everyone

Another sunny morning here.

Yogi, I hope you are feeling better

Squiggle, the family who set up Talking Pictures had tried to get the main TV broadcasters to show older films and TV series but got nowhere so they decided to create Talking Pictures.

A client may be dropping off their accounts papers this morning.

I hope everyone has a good day

No sign of that client - supposed to have come over an hour ago. It's a very small local charity and the treasurer does her work on a voluntary basis - she works away during the week but was expecting to be back home by yesterday evening so I assume something has scuppered her plans.

I see that a certain horse racing pundit has died, the one who everyone would know of even if they've never seen a horse race in their life.
