I have been watching the tennis from Strasbourg. On occasions it shows you a closeup of a tennis ball on the court between games. The brand name that was on this tennis ball was, IS

I know someone whose first name is Isis (pronounced eye-sis). That name had been popular and was from the Egyptian goddess of that name. It's also an alternative name for the river Thames, particularly where if flows through Oxford (and is used by rowers there). Not surprisingly in recent years, that name is much less popular and some people with that name have changed theirs.

I agree El

In this case the tennis tournament is, Internationaux de Strasbourg

I told you El, your pavement refurbishment is becoming like a soap opera

I hope they get it over and done with very soon

I just hope it's not like Brookside with a body under the pavement (patio in Brookside rather than pavement)

Not guilty, Milord

I’ll be a character witness for you, El

Good morning everyone it looks like it will be a sunny day today, we haven't had any rain this week although it was forecast. I hope the flat pack furniture assembling went well with no missing bits. The latest Milly Johnson arrived yesterday. I'm looking forward to it. I've been on a Rosamund Pilcher splurge lately. Amazingly there were many I hadn't read, all wonderful. I might re-read some Norah Lofts as well.

Enjoy your day everyone

Good morning everyone

Weather here hasn't made up its mind yet as to whether it's going to be a sunny day or a cloudy day

Yogi, hopefully, there will never be a time where I'll need a character witness but I'll keep you in mind should I need one

Summer, I hope you enjoyed your currt last night

Squiggle, I'm glad you are enjoying all those books

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone.

It was sunny at 6am but light winds and showers are forecast.

Sorry I missed you last night Ros, I hope choir practice went well.

Squiggle, I hadn’t heard of Nora Lofts, I’ll need to check out her books.

El, I’m sure you will never need a character witness but, if you do, I’ll be there for you (to quote Friends’ theme song).

Have a good weekend, all.

Interesting Youtube clip. The first half is technical, the second half is intriguing, with some results better than others. There will be concern though as to how this can be abused.

The remnants of a prehistoric forest uncovered by Storm Hannah.

The petrified trees lie between Ynyslas and Borth in Ceredigion county.

The forest has become associated with a 17th Century myth of a sunken civilization known as 'Cantre'r Gwaelod', or the 'Sunken Hundred'.

Good morning hurricane sweet checking in! I’ve hit the ground running since I got back from holiday, and I’ve ended up cancelling my plans for this weekend because I’d like some down time! So bramble and I are having a bank holiday weekend at home instead

Squiggle, I hope you enjoy the new Milly. I’ve just read the perfectly imperfect woman, on holiday, and I loved it! I encouraged my mum to read it after and she loved it too, she found parts of it hilarious 😁

Good morning everyone

Cloudy here and showers expected today.

Ros, well done on your choir's performance the other day

Summer, I hope you have a relaxing time at home

I hope everyone has a good day

Today is Rogation Sunday in church. That's from the Lating word rogare = to ask. Traditionally that's to ask God's blessings on the fruits of the earth and the labours of those who produce our food. It's a bit like the better know Harvest Sunday but at the start of the season rather than the end.

That's followed by 3 Rogation days where in the past was the ceremony of beating the bounds, in which a procession of parishioners, led by the minister and churchwardens would proceed around the boundary of their parish and pray for its protection in the forthcoming year.

When our current vicar arrived a few years ago she did actually "beat the bounds" but that's rarely done now.

Watching yesterday's Pointless Celebrities, one round was to say a word ending with ole. Barcarole came to my mind  - that's associated with songs by Venetian gondoliers - no idea as to what that would have scored, one of those words which could be a pointless one or a 100 pointer. The famous barcarole in classical music:

BBC confirmation that the Christmas special of Call the Midwife has been filmed. This time, they are off to the Outer Hebrides lead by Mother Mildred (Miriam Margoyles) where the conditions are rather bleak. Filming of the 9th series has started - cast seems to be unchanged. And Nonnatus House is under the threat of demolition (though of course the 10th and 11th series have already been commissioned).

BBC has also confirmed that filming of the 9th series of Death in Paradise has started - main cast is as it was at the end of the last series.

Evening all

We’ve had sunshine and showers and it has been windy too.

Ros, I’m sure the performance was great

Summer, I hope you are enjoying your down time.

El, thanks for the Call The Midwife news

Loved the Baracole video. Lovely music and Venice is particularly beautiful at night

Moonie, have you been up to the park today?

I hope you’ve all had a good day

Hi Yogi

I have been up twice today and will be going up again soon

Our family are still 8 babies and two parents. They seem to be commuting between the big pool and the little pool today

Mum has at least five babies on her back on occasions..

Sometimes you can see one or two little heads sticking out between mums wings

Then she gets tired and turf them all off

Good morning oh I’ve had a lovely sleep, it’s so good to be having a lay in!

its a bit overcast here today, my plan is to simply potter in the garden. What are you all doing today?

Btw, did you see the Downton movie trailer? I’m very excited about that.

Moonie, I saw some cygnets on Saturday!

Good morning everyone, a lovely bright and breezy morning.  Moonie you must feel a little like a proud parent watching your swan family, another successful breeding season.  My favourite bit is always when they are old enough to swim behind the parents.  The Downton Abbey film looks like it's going to be good, when is it out?

Enjoy your day everyone

Good morning everyone.

Light showers forecast.

Summer, Bramble must feel a lot cooler with her fur stripped.

I’m looking forward to the Downton movie - Mr Yogi enjoyed the series too so I think we’ll go together to see it when it’s released.

Have a lovely Bank Holiday, everyone.
