Yogi, I'm glad your snow didn't stay long

Another phone call I got was one of those silent ones. Did a check on the phone number and it's one of those fraudulent callers, supposedly from HMRC, saying you are about to be arrested for fraud, ring a given number to speak to someone to arrange for you to pay them thousands of pounds. So the criminals are at it again.

Twickers, some of the calls I get are because I am in business so get calls relating to business electricity supply (which is irrelevant to me). As they are calling from abroad I can't stop them and even though I tell them I work from home they are incapable of understanding that. Those may not be scam callers.

The typical scam caller rings lots of numbers at the same time and it's chance as to who answers. The HMRC one I got would have been silent as another person answered their phone befor I answered mine, Numbers are rung at random but I think they probably ring the same area at the time.

Good morning all a snowy start here, with sunny intervals now breaking through. I’m full of cold again, which is no surprise considering the yo-yoing temperatures. I’m taking good care of myself though and will no doubt soon be back to normal

how are you all? And who’s excited for the return of the Durrells on Sunday?!

~Sparkling Summer~

Good afternoon everyone

I'm back from that course. It wasn't that interesting though there were bits of some relevance for me.

Summer, I hope you shake off your cold soon

I'll be watching The Durrells. It's the final series and has 6 episodes. To have any later series would require history to be fundamentally rewritten to a point where it would become science fiction. I suppose a new series could be created about Gerald and his zoo in later years but that's 20 years later so would require a different actor as Gerald.

I read an interview with Keeley Hawes earlier. She says that although she’s heartbroken that the series has come to an end, it’s good to go out when people love it and want more. To drag it on and on and let it lose its appeal, would be awful.

I recall the Downton Abbey folk saying the same when they finished, and I do agree. Same goes for Game if Thrones, i’ll hate to see it end but I’m pleased both shows are at the height of their popularity.

I’ll order the tissues in now lol

~Sparkling Summer~

Summer, I agree with you about series ending when the time is right. In the case of The Durrells as that's based on Gerald Durrell's autobiographical trilogy of his time in Corfu, it would be silly to make later series set in Corfu.

Never saw Downton Abbey due to my dislike of the creator and scriptwriter Julian Fellowes as I've said before - I detested his earlier work - Gosford Park and had seen him on television in an interview and was repelled by his chauvinistic views.

I did see the very first episode of Game of Thrones when it was shown on one of the Freeview channels but its content made it unwatchable for me.

Ooh what kind of cakes?!

When The Durrells tv show ends, I would like to read Gerry’s Corfu Trilogy

El, offputting content aside, Game of Thrones has a great storyline. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all concludes.

I have a friend who can tell you every character that has ever been on the series. Virtually every word of every episode. Who has lived and died. How they died and so on

Yogi, at the office I used to work in, the custom was that on someone's birthday they had to get cream cakes for everyone in their department. There was a period of time where we were getting cream cakes every couple of days due to birthdays being close together

Just as well that we don't do that at my church. There was a time that 3 other people there had the same birthday as me Nothing like twins, just a coincidence. Don't ask me what the chances of that are as that's not a simple calculation.

El Loro

I calculate that the chances of 3 unrelated people in a congregation of 150 people (as it was at the time) having the same birthday as me is about 3.7% (1 in 27).

There was a time when I was on the parochial church council that 2 of the others on the council had the same birthday as me. Given that there would be about 20 people, the chances are substantially lower at about 0.25% (1 in 400).
