No majestic clouds here, Squiggle, mainly blue sky with a few small fluffy clouds. It's cold but the frost has lifted and water rather than ice on the roads.

We had more snow overnight and it was foggy earlier. The sun is now shining, although it’s still very cold. The snow is lying on the gardens and pavements but the roads are pretty clear.

Not intending on watching the current film version of "A Star is Born". Many people assume that the Judy Garland/James Mason version is the original. But that wasn't the original as there was the 1937 version with Janet Gaynor and Frederick March (not a musical). But there was an earlier version called "What Price Hollywood?" which was made in 1932 which was directed by George Cukor, the director of the Garland/Mason film.

i had my annual boiler service and all is well, thankfully then I treated myself to a day of solitude, I’ve been hiking & meditating, then I had a steak dinner.

Cold sub-zero here, sunny at present and temperature should be a bit over zero. Snow this evening and overnight - weather sites show different amounts varying from 2 cm to 10 cm. If 2 cm won't be too bad, if 10 cm then widespread transport problems.
Today's Met Office longer term forecast to the end of February mentions that the risk of very cold conditions from the east has lessened in recent days (so less likely the beast from the east returning).

Good morning everyone, wow -5 Summer that really is cold. There's no snow in the forecast here and the temperatures are forecast to climb at the weekend. I'm glad there were no problems with your medication EL, with mine I have received the generic version now and I just have to take 2 tablets instead of 1 to get the strength of the original. Well done on sorting out that tricky tax problem too.

Thanks Squiggle I've just returned from collecting my prescription and there were no problems with any of the medication. I had about a week's supply left of some of the medication but didn't want to leave it to the last moment as if there had been problems I wouldn't be leaving it too late. My doctor prescribes for 8 weeks as a time.
At least your medication has arrived before you ran out All my medications are the generic version rather than branded and have been since I started taking them.
I didn't attempt to explain to that client what had happened with his tax account, just told him at first that it was a mess, and, once it was sorted, the end result. He seems to be better off by £2.14. £1 is caused by HMRC thinking that £2588 = £2589. The other £1.14 is repayment supplement as if he had paid tax in advance which he hadn't. The original error was down to them thinking that £2588 = £2999. Trying to explain the causes of that would require both me and the client to have degrees in quantum mechanics where it's possible to have something in two different states at the same time

Snow is still lying and we’ve got freezing fog. The trees are all covered in white frost and look very pretty. It was -6 when Mr Y went to work this morning and still -4 when I popped to my GP practice at 11.30am.

Outside temperature here has crept up to 1.1 C so cold but not as cold where you are (and a heatwave compared to the mid-West in the States). Freezing fog though is very nasty and makes driving rather hazaardous.
Summer, my annual boiler service is done during the warmer months rather than at this time of the year. That way, there's less risk of a breakdown at a time of year when it's at its coldest. Though a winter service may be better where the boiler is well past its expected life.
Yesterday's episode and today's of Doctors were a two part story and is really lovely unless you hate old fashioned love stories such as David Lean's Summertime (Katherine Hepburn).

Snowed here during the night, not amounting to more than a covering. Forecast to continue snowing throughout the morning. An area of England (roughly Oxford to Woking) has the worst of the snow this morning where the weather system seems to have stalled and my area is affected but to a lesser extent. Looking at my local news site, lots of schools closed for the day but more rural rather than urban, local buses running as normal.

Thanks Summer As you might imagine the amount of paper I need to shred is substantially more than most people as it's confidential client papers. I have a good quality business shredder rather than a personal one. Roughly two foot of paper a year. I put the shredded paper in a charity bag (lots of them get put through my letterbox) and put the bag in the recycling box. Don't do more than one bag at a time. The local council accept bags of shredded paper provided that it's properly tied and that it's clear from the outside that it's shredded paper (so plastic bin liners wouldn't be acceptable). The only other option would be to burn the paper but that's not fair on neighbours. The amount is too small to warrant getting it done by a commercial shredder.
On a technical note my shredder is a cross-cut one with 3.9 x 38 mm size of shredded bits which puts that as a level 4 security shredder which is appropriate for my needs.
